Is it Miki or Mikey Dora?

My father in law and I have a bet going on regarding the spelling “Miki or Mickey” Dora’s name. I found in Surfer’s Journal and Longboard magazine it spelled it Miki. Then my father in law pulled out a 1965 Surfer and it was spelled Mickey. If anyone has an opinion, please help us with this dispute. Thank you for all of your help.

Miki. short for Miklos…

Gentlemen, I would take a look at the signature model surfboard. How is the name spelled there? Seems that would be a solid source for what was in common use, and acceptable to Mr. Dora during his lifetime.

As far as the spelling. I checked my Da Cat . Inside the logo in his own hand writing it’s Mickey Dora. Gordon

That depends. If you are talking about the legendary Malibu style master, it’s Miki Dora. If you are buying a Chinese knockoff longboard, it’s probably Mikey Dora

Hi Mike maybe they sold chinese knockoffs in FL. in 1967.But here on the west coast we got ours from Gregs factory in Ca.Mickey approved the logo for the first run of Da Cats in the mid 60’s.And Also for the 200 or so in the early 90’s . I can Email Laura to see if any Da Cats were made in China. Gordon

Sorry that post was intended as a joke. I do not know of any OLD knockoff Da Cat models produced in China, but I would not doubt that we will be seeing “New/Old” Mikey Dora models very soon from the same folks who are now producing the Surfboards Hawaii and Challenger labels.

Mmanzi, I enjoyed that joke, probably would have been served up with a nice dry delivery in person…nice. Gil

there were some REALLY good knock-off cats made in the valley by a heck of a shaper in the early 90’s.thin, bitchin’ boards with correct laminates.he got busted.who knows, perhaps da cat was in on it all the way…
