Is the "Get new version of JAVA popup" on Sways a hack?

Upon logging it today I got a message from http://get-new-java.com/AU/index.php?&dv1=26109&dv2= teling me to install the latest version (25) of Java.

I went to java.com to check and I have the latest version of Java (45) installed.

Has Sways been hacked?

I see no popups or ads, for that matter. I use Firefox with a popup blocker and Adblock Plus.

On a Windows machine, any notice for a Java update should appear in the toolbar in your taskbar.

I would be suspect of any other notifications. Not that the site may have been hacked, but more that it should be viewed like any other ad.

Might be your computer has been compromised with some malware. Try it with a different browser and see if you get the same alert. Seem to be a Windows thing. I clicked the link on an iPad and get a Windows specific alert.

There’s a free anti malware program that can check for it.

malwarebytes.com

A quick (and easy) search reveals that your own machine may be infected with malware, and it has nothing to do with Swaylocks.

Try this

https://www.google.com/#q=http:%2F%2Fget-new-java.com&safe=off

I think its definately swaylocks. I have been getting redirects randomly since the site upgrade. Only when browsing swaylocks and from multiple machines. I have a good virus scanner running here at work and my machine is clean.

It happened again when posting this.

Some antivirus programs do not protect aganst malware. atomized provided a link to free anti malware protection. Try it.

Also, have a look at this.

I also get them here and only here never on the pc but on my phone.

Only Sways

yep, only sways.
scanned my pc with my usual virus scan and the malware checker, all clear.
I do a fair bit of “research” in my usual work day and never have the same issue from other sites.

try scanning with spybot search and destroy

Google “Root Kit”. Getting rid of one of those is where the real fun starts.

While we’re at it, I also get “Congratulations, you are a winner of an Apple product” popup that then replaces the Sways window. This does not seem to be normal behaviour for advertising (for instance, the free supermarket voucher popup opens in a new browser tab). I support advertising on Sways, so this is not a complaint. But I wonder if the malware is not being hosted on the advertising engine.

My computer is clean.
