Italian paipo lover

Hello,

this is Paolo from iItaly.

I am looking for a wood paipo template (finless).

Anyone can help?

If you go to www.rodntube.com there are a lot of templates available if you search through the site and there’s a paipo forum dedicated to just paipos.

 Or  Google.

Thank you.

I knew that site.

I hoped someone could send me a pdf template.

Any chance?

Ciao!

Hi Paolo, you’re got a great looking paipo and hand plane in your avatar, so you must be, or know a good shaper… why not work from that shape and make what you want ?

What were you looking to build, what type of paipo ?

 Regards, Brett in Australia.

Hi Surffoils,

That is my paipo, shaped in Italy by my friend Oliver (Officina Mediterranea brand). It works great and is perfect for Med Sea conditions. We are just exploring new paths. You know Italian surf scene is quite “young and virgin”, so any advice is more than welcome.

Please don’t mention " young and virgin" in front of this motley crew !

There are so many ways to go and I saw the OM branding on the paipo.

You could try new shapes, different woods, try to mix wood and different foam and glass combinations…  With smaller Med Sea waves bouyancy could be something to focus on so you get better length of ride ?

So many options, and so many people here with better advice, hang on and I’m sure there will be more replies to steer you in the right direction.

You’re in the right place for advice.

Perfect!

Buoyancy could be a good starting point for shape variations.

I look forward to read replies from the crew.

Sorry for “young and virgin”…

It’s my latin soul.

A recent thread where a German guy discussed various planshape options: http://mypaipoboards.org/forum3/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=415

Larry Goddard’s interview http://mypaipoboards.org/interviews/LarryGoddard/LarryGoddard.shtml and design sheets: http://mypaipoboards.org/interviews/LarryGoddard/Designs/thumb.shtml

I doubt you’ll get enormous differences in flotation with the same basic design parameters of  a wood paipo ( a board an inch narrower or 6 " longer isn’t going to make much difference). Board thickness doesn’t vary much either.

As Surffoils suggests, play around with the design you have. These are simple planing craft as opppsed to the myriad variants you see in foam/fibreglass boards.

Thank you Bob.

I will check those links.

I think we can work on lenght and width, without making a thick board.
