It's finally done ...

Just finished buffing it out today. Whattaya think?

That is one crazy ass tail. let us no how it rides!

Beautiful wood working. The tail should provide many stories. Please let us know how she goes. thx

I’m not really sure what happened to the tail … I don’t think it was supposed to turn out that way … lol … well a little late now. Hope it isn’t a useless piece of firewood. :stuck_out_tongue:

Next time I pay much more attention to the structural integrity of the jig I use to glue up the frame … there is a visible twist in part of the board if you eyeball it closely. I doubt it will affect the ride much though. Looks nice but far from perfect. I’ll improve on the next one.

Nice work. Dale Velzy had designed a board in the late 50s or early 60s with a tail similar to the one you shaped. I forgot what he deemed it but it definitely looked like yours.

Talk about time for a cold one, maybe a hot chocolate and make plans for the next one.

Nice one bud, what’s the logo inlay made of? Looks really good.

Have a cold one for me too, I’m all out.

That Velzy design was called ‘‘The Velzy Bump’’, for obvious reasons. There was a tendancy to spinout, inherent in the design. The boards needed to be turned flat. They did not go up on a rail very well. I had one in late 1958, 8’ 10’’ x 20’’ solid balsa. Cost new, $ 75 dollars!

nice wood work! how long did she take you to complete?
