And if the forecast is right , we can expect another 7 at LEAST , smashing all records for perth , since the bureau of meteorology [BOM] started keeping track of such things ...
being in a top floor flat , with a west-facing * double brick wall, with no airconditioning , it definately FEELS now like our REAL Perth [ * yep , I'm in WEST Australia !] summer is in full swing now !
all day offshores = no surf , and sand that nearly melts thongs ['flip flops' , not g-strings , that is]
cheers

You can say that again Ben! We’ve had a few hot days in Melbourne, but nothing like the Perth forecast. On Tuesday, I glossed two boards in 35C heat from the one cup of epoxy. It was so hot the epoxy flowed like water, so I only used about 100ml resin for each board (one side), quite a bit less than I expected so I still had about 100ml left in the cup at the end. By the time I got the first board done, the cup of resin was getting hot in my hand, and by the time I got the second board done, the cup was too hot to hold. I barely had 10 minutes to do both boards, but at least the flip time was fast. Fortunately the end result was fine.
where about in QLD are you mate ? yep, this rain sucks and MORE to come the reckon…I have had enough and it is not helping with the glassing side of things…be cool to catch up, maybe we can help each other out somehow …
As with any exothermic resin, batch size determines heat. If you split your batch into two smaller containers the heat will be lessened and allow longer working time. Another method is to use a larger container that creates more surface area on the batch. Greater surface area = better heat dissipation. I learned this trick when building mahagony exterior doors for custom homes. We’d mix up the batch, then spread it over a sheet of scrap plywood. This would lessen the heat buildup and thus, the ‘kick’ time. This way, you don’t have to rush the job as much.
It is -8c in Canada we have the opposite problem. Paying alot of money to heat the shed and I have to place the resin close to the heater otherwise it is like cold molasses. I have my shed insulated so it’s toasty inside.
Some people use microwaves but that just scares me. I will stick with slow and steady heating.
If it’s that hot I suggest going for a surf… Enjoy the heat.
Hey Sammy. Yeah, I knew that was the case, but I was just being lazy and wanted to avoid having to mix two batches of resin. But for just under 300ml of mixed epoxy, I was expecting closer to 20 mins pot life rather than 10 mins, so that caught me a bit by surprise! I should have known that after a few days of 30+C temps, the ambient resin temperature was probably close to 30C itself to begin with. At least it ended well!
