Speaking for yours truly mine was machined so it used an abrasive drum (wheel). Normal planer blades tear it to smithereens. As for finishing off the pre shape, a harder sanding block doesn’t seem to tear the foam so easily.
Board hasn’t delam’d and it’s been a little while now. Pro’s for me was the board was more ding resistant and lighter than any PU board I’ve ever made of that size. Biggest issues for me though is that the foam is 50% more than a PU blank and harder to finish off smoothly.
Not sure if you would like the extra work (thickness) either if you were handshaping with a grit drum.
