How does this differ from regular XPS? Here are some of the previously listed problems with xps:

Here’s the deal… XPS delaminates because, A. It is copolymerized with polyethylene which NOTHING sticks to and B. the blowing agent gasses are trapped within the cells. As soon as the cells are damaged the blowing agent is released and as soon as they are heated they will expend under the glass. Now the holes will release the blowing agent in the areas where the are holes, but, in the areas there are none you will still get delamination problems. This is especially true in the area of the rail where you push for duck diving. Also, anytime the board or a patr of a board, is heated you will get post expansion. This is evedent under dark colored labels and airbrushes and places like pin lines. Also, if the temperature goes above 165¼, EVER, you have stressed the cell structure within the blank and this will have an overall effect on the longevity of the board. It will reduce the break strength even if it’s not delaminated.

If you are the manufacturer, I’d like to hear you comments? Is it copolymerized with polyethylene?

I would also like answers to punasurf’s questions before I invest any time or money into these blanks.

I got the same response. I don’t know if the offer of a sample is for real or just a bait and switch?

Picture drawing of blanks on this web page below you can see are plagiarized directly from the actual Clark Foam catalog:

http://www.gudangsurfboard.com/product_catalogue.asp?

Ah yes…

lets all get together and continue digging our own ecomonic graves…

just so we can save $20 on our next board. (its plainly obvious to me that others have figured out…its easy to make money when your customer is selfish and shortsighted)

Come to think of it, I suppose $20 is significant when the only job available is flippin’ burgers…

When will all this madness end?

Our IXPS FOAM is a new material. It isn’t the conventional PU system; it’s recyclable and environmentally friendly.

IXPS Foam is very white, light, durable, and with a good flex. It is ideal for shaping surfboards as it makes net blank shapes.

Weight is EPS and an about the same feeling. Density is very airtight and quality to exceed PU.

This foam is suitable for machine or hand shaping and its lightness makes it very suitable for mold board shaping.

Thanks a lot, Eric, but that doesn’t answer any of the REAL questions. We all know what XPS is, what we want to know is why yours would not delaminate just like the others do…

Eric,

What are the physical characteristics of your foam? Cell size? Densities available? Blowing system? AND, PLEASE ADDRESS THE QUESTIONS RELATED TO DELAMINATION. Why are you not setting up a distributor for your product, instead of trying to market direct to the end user? Most end users don’t want to screw around with the shipping and customs issues. Single point pickup, or delivered to the door is generally expected. There is plenty of foam around to choose from. Customer service will separate the men from the boys. Service was the backbone of the Clark Foam success formula, as well as price.

ERIC… Can you make some time in your busy schedule to answer the sincere questions posed by several of the posters in response to your thread? It would be nice. Might even lead to some blank sales.

Hi Bill,

I have also been in touch with the guys making IXPS surfboard blanks in China, but having read your questions to them and their lack of response I’m a little worried about this technology. Have you had a chance to test any of their blanks?
