J-Bay

Anyone care to share thoughts on my goal of spending a month at J-Bay mid June to mid July? Is camping a possibility? Sorry if I sound naive, but I reckon some here have experience with the J-Bay area.

Thanks

it’s a good time to go -swell wise.'bout all i know…

contact Proneman if you can find him.

No first hand experience but I know some guys have stayed at www.cristalcove.co.za I think it was about $15 per night last I heard.

Thanks for the help you guys - looked at air fair… “Good lord that’s a lot of money…” Still questin’

If you think it is exp. to fly now just wait till next year after the airlines have shrunk capacity by 15-20 per cent. This is the time to be there…that is why the pros are there now! It is good to be there for a month or more . Supertubes really needs to be acouple feet overhead to start working.

Once there it is pretty cheap to stay and you really dont need a car. Maybe see you there after the pros leave…still considering.

Rogelio…

Hi there

I live in Port Elizabeth. It’s 30 minutes east of JBay and is the city you’ll fly into to get to Jbay from Johannesburg.

You’ll be arriving at the end of the peek swell period but I’m sure you’re still get waves. The ASP circus is getting

ready to leave after the Billabong Pro so you’ll get some uncrowded mid-week surf. The easiest is to hire a car in PE

when landing and drive through to Jbay. You then have the option of driving through to Seal Point (Cape St Francis)

when JBay is small. It’s just 15 minutes from Jbay and picks up lots of swell and is a classic point break.

Lots of accommodation options in JBay. Either camping or bed and breakfast.

Cheers

Isn’t Swaylocks a great site! Great local info from all over the world, for surfing no less:)

Thanks again all - Just to be clear, I’m starting to plan for summer '09. After looking at different airfares, again who know what will happen in the not to distant future re. $$$, for the current price of airfare to SA, I could go and stay at Lagundri Bay on Nias, which is actually just above right to surf while I still can…

Howzit Taylor, After checking all the discount ticket sites I saved almost $200 using the AARP web site. Don’t know your age but you don’t have to be 50 to join. Aloha,Kokua

My wife and I did 5 weeks in SA before kids.

We stayed at http://www.surfpackers.co.za/ while in JBay.

Great location right at the carpark to Supertubes.

Great people who run the place.

Highly recommended.

Scot

you mean i waited 'til i was 50 to join? bummer…

Howzit Matt, I think the only thing you have to wait till you're 50 for is AARP's auto insurance deals. Do you use them for insurance? I joined at 47.Aloha,Kokua

Hey! Glad I re-read this… Didn’t know you could join before 50… May try it. Really have set my thoughts on Lagundri bay on Nias, Indo. That it my dream wave, and it seems, as I think I wrote, I could go and stay for a month for the price of a ticket to SA. Anyone been? Got info to share on getting there from the main airports?

Thanks for playing -
