J.Tudor's wetsuits? Ruber Soul wetsuits

Anybody know who makes Joel Tudors wetsuits?

I’m after a long sleaved smoothskin top like the ones J.T. wears (Zero body fat - I freeze even when its tropical!) anyone know where I could get hold of one? My local custom guy wouldn’t make me one when I asked a year or two back…

Also up a D.Hynd’s shindig in the Hebrides a couple of years back Curren et al were wearing some suits called “Rubber Soul” that looked real good anyone know anything about these suits?

They are called “Amsterdam Wetsuits”, and are not currently available anywhere in the U.S., only out of Japan…

I think these are the ones that use a neoprene with much finer air intrusion. Samller, but many more air holes per cubic centimeter, so to speak. I’ve read articles about them; if I recall, the claim was that a 1mm suit with the increased grade of neoprene was as thermally efficient as our best 3/2’s, but that’s purely from memory, and an unreliable one at that.

Seems like a full suit ran about 5 or 6 benjamins.

Notice the cut too, especially the upper torso…Kind of odd, don’t you think?

Rubber Soul is made by OP.

J.T’s Toilet paper? what brand. I need to know. 1 or two ply? ultra retro vintage brand I hope… Red on wetsuits always fades to pink but pink is punk so u’d be in like Flinn…

I think maybe you mean Vintage Soul wetsuits?

Be sure to get the beavertail model if you want real authenticity! And let it flap, never, ever snap up the beavertail. Unless you like pain.

I lived in Japan for six years back in the 90s and the material in the suits there was always ahead of what we got here in the states. Maybe it’s because people are willing to pay $500 and up for a suit (and over a grand for a shortboard), but they seemed to be way ahead on wetsuit quality over there.

Of course being a u.s. medium tall, no Japanese sizes would fit me off the rack even if I had wanted to spend $500 plus on a wetsuit. A certain NZ wood board builder offered to have his mates make me a suit custom to my measurements and it fit great (until i moved back to the states and started eating like an american again). And for the record, it was plain black, not “flamingo” colored! Now that I’m back in California I can buy off the rack sizes again and am pretty satisfied with the current wetsuits being made here. But those Japanese suits are nice…but at $700 and over…

thats the inside of the suit im pretty sure

I think you can order the neoprene material and have a local wetsuit manufacturer make one for you. Matter of fact, I’m certain of it, but I would assume that you would do that to ensure a correct fit; it’s probably not a big cost savings.

And, jees, man…eat the burger.
