Ventura pioneer surfer, Jack Cantrell died Oct. 25. He would have been 84 on Thursday the 31st, his birthday. Services at the Mission on Wed, Oct. 31.
He passed away at home on Pitas Pt. of heart failure. Paddle out at Mandos I believe on Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
He was a life long surfer and a good man. He wil be missed.

yep, big bummer. i've known jack my whole life. he and my dad grew up together. he use to hang out at our beach house(near his house) back when i was a kid.always fun to surf with and talk story with. about a month ago we lost another local pioneer surfer-tom williams, who was also a close friend and mentor.i miss them both-a lot.

Sorry to hear about Jack passing away , but not altogether surprising he had been ill for a long time . Years back we used to duck thru his side gate to get to the surf and then sit on his deck and talk story with him after . Rest in peace Jack .
Always a welcome when I visited the point and we hardly knew each other. Another good man gone. R.I.P. Jack
