…Well,I was wrong Jim,When I first saw these blanks I thought to myself no way is this thing going to work with my planer!the results were great,no problems with major plowing or beaded chunks flying out of the shape. Thanks again for the promo,Now I got to either get some of Greg’s epoxy or risk this experimental epoxy from Dow???.I think Greg’s resin would be the better bet. …I’m still leary about how it will perform for me???Hopefully better than the latter I surfed in the past.Herb
I’m happy to hear it shaped good. Jim is supposed to have one for me next time I’m in Ca. Sounds like fun. By the way, we will be shipping from the West Coast in about two weeks.
Do these materials compare to those used by XTR? I think xtr uses closed cell extruded styro.
These blanks sound great. What’s the full skinny on them? Where do they come from? Hey Gregg, I’ wrappin the 9’5"x22.5" pintailed Junod with double six ounce with you 2000 epoxy. I’m gonna double hot coat it. Is there any need to skuff it after lamination to get better adhesion? What the trick to polishing out your epoxy? We’re gonna give it a go with a double hot coat with additive “F” so it’ll be super smooth and easy to buff out without showing any weave. Any Suggestions? I’ll post a photo when it’s done. Michel’s doing the final sanding next week; He likes it – I’m stoked! Mahalo, Rich p.s. great news about west coast availability. Where are you gonna ship it out of?
Pat, no they are completely different than the DOW foam that are the XTR. These are individually blown and are very easy to cut with a regular planer. Now it isn’t quite the cake walk of a Walker or Clark, but no means like an extruded EPS blank
Jim, where can one buy these indivisually blown blanks you are talking about, in So. Cal.?
Come on guys, out with it. What are you playing with? Rob Olliges
Yes, what are you guys talking about?
One of my associates has spent the money to have 2 aluminum molds made to have EPS beaded foam individually blown in them. One is 7’0" and the other is 9’6", I cut and glue them with custom rockers for the customers. Yes they can be gotten from me in Encinitas, Ca.
Jim, DO you like the beaded better than XTR, or is it that the beaded are less expensive?
Oh, Do you know of a goog glass shop in SD that glasses epoxy?
Is the beaded foam you are using the small bead very tightly compressed foam like the foam used in Dart coffee cups or the larger softer beaded foam that you see used in building construction?
