Jim - I spoke with George Robinson about glassing balsa and he recommended taping off an apron and, using a squeegee, apply a sealer coat of laminating resin to each side before applying cloth. He said it prevents pin air as the grain tends to suck up resin while laminating. Is this how it’s done?

The resins of yesteryear had more solid polyesters and didn’t require this, but with the air quality regulations, resins have been modified over the years. Pin air isn’t the problem, with age the glass simply lifts off the board, like there wasn’t any resin under the cloth. When the sealed blank looks shiny, there is enough resin on to laminate. http://www.JimtheGenius@aol.com
hey Jim - thanks for the info.
Hey John what kind of balsa are you making? I have a 8’0’blank Marc Andreini gluedup and is going to shape soon.
Still pondering over design specifics but leaning towards another 3 stringer retro gun.
