I bought a Surfboards Hawaii Noserider about 5 years ago from someone in Long Island N.Y. It’s signed “Surfboards Hawaii Noserider 4200 9’8” Jim “The Genious” Phillips". It needed a little work but solid over all. It has a concave blue and green fiberglass tailblock, 2 stringers, 2 blue panels on the nose, and the Islands logo on the deck, nice. It has the square logo on the bottom. It’s not flat. It has a continuous rocker. It has a fin box and a through the fin box tube to run a string through for attatching a leash. I use it in the summer in N.J. and once I got the feel of it, it has become a very fun surfboard. I’m trying to establish some history. Has anyone else seen a Jim Phillips SBH Noserider? I know he was on and off there and other places for years. I tried emailing his companys website to possibly get an idea of when this could have been shaped but got no response. I’m guessing early 90’s from the info I can get off the web. Thanks all for any info you may have.
Sounds like one of the Florida boards from when Ed Clapp had the label. Not sure how that came about, as the original was owned by Dick Brewer in Hawaii and later became the property of John Price in Encinitas.
So, what you have is a replica/reissue and it has little to no historic value. But, if it was shaped by Phillips you can be sure the work is first rate. He’s picky like that.
Jim did the reproduction SB Hawaii for Rick Carrol surfboards in Florida. Rick then made the reproductions off a cnc cutter. Jim may have shaped some by hand best to get in touch with Jim to see whats what. I don’t think RC has a licance to produce The Surfboards Hawaii at this time. Have not seen any on his web page in along time.
This is a board I shaped in Encnitas for Surfboards Hawaii, the shape date would be in '96-'97, before there was a pissing match between the owner of SBH and the glass shop that seldom got boards finished before summer was over and another shaper that hid orders to prevent me from shaping them
