Joel Tudor Surfboards/Steve& Stu *PIC*

Confusion=if Steve Ford shapes Joel Tudor Surfboards, Why is Stu Kenson name still on the website(2004 edition), don’t you have to pay to use someone’s name in advertising, or is Japan different, guess Steve Ford doesn’t sell as well as Stu’s. This doesn’t seem cool or remotely ethicially. Where is the Love? http://mothersnet.jp

Fledgling businessman flying by the seat of his pants.

oh! and their the only surfboard business that has flown by the seat of their pants?not everyone has a trust fund.

Why wouldn’t Steve’s work sell as well, they are models finished off the machine. Steve spends a half hour or more on each one, Stu 5 minutes, which one comes out better?

Jim, Velzy credits and pays you fairly, why would you not demand the same for your fellow shapers. Why are Stu and Steve imune to your passion for fair and accurate, credit and compensation of surfboard craftsman. Why should one get paid and no credit and the other not get paid and get the credit. Confusing, Jim help me, do you know something we don’t?

Personality conflicts, business, ego, and money. These things happen; it’s really none of your business.

I get paid far less for more work and a job better done than Stu was doing for the Tudors and I still am getting paid fairly! I NEVER sign the Velzy’s, Linden’s, Takayama’s, Encinitas, Eberly’s, Tudor’s, Brewer’s, Diff’s, etc. They DO sign the pay checks, so they call the shots, my family eats, I stay happy, I get laid and I have work everyday. how does that old saying go " Do a good job and we’ll have you back next week"

So who exactly is shaping for Joel Tudor Surfboards? I have a 9’0 Diamond T single, volan cloth, pigmented resin, resin pinlines, beautiful outline and rails. Signed by Bill Shrosbree (sp). This board is one of the best I’ve ever ridden, noserides incredibly well, responsive and quick, perfect trim and acceleration, a joy to ride in waves small to large (and look at). I’d like to think Shros shaped it, but if not, whoever did knows what they are doing. I’d give very high marks for all the JT longboards I’ve seen, but I haven’t seen too many of the shorties and midlengths.

Mitch’s La Jolla has tons of the shorter and mid-length ones. At least they generally do.

i saw a bunch of their glassed boards at-… in encinitas beautiful work!!!Who cares about all that little boy drama-ego crap!!! that’s everwhere -trust me.

i own 2 tudors and 2 takayamas, iv’e ridden the crap outa em, the tudor has a much better glass job , and noserides insane . these boards are worth the extra money “to me”, surfers are a bunch of cheap bastards- they will pull up to the beach in a 20 to 30 thousand dollar SUV,then wip out the ol’ realm or Ron-Jon stick or even better the same board theve been clogging the line up with for 15 years, complete with the gotcha sticers on it. if surfing is their life then why are they so freakin cheap. they should stop buying the stupid $50 quacksilver shirts and start buying a piece that you can call artwork.

The problem with the tudor boards is they are too expensive to ding, and dings happen, and if my 6 million dollar board dings I’ll have to fix it and then it wont look as pretty. Because I’m a cheep bastard i wont even polish, just do the best that clogged up 320 can do. Not that pretty surfboards are a bad thing, just hard to maintain. And just for shannon, i’m cheep across the board…gasoline to alcohol. The only time i spend the extra money is for fishing tackle. And if Joel is listening, hey i’ll ride yer stuff just lessen the price, pay shapers and glassers but i’ll keep yer cut.

As far as I can see, the price thing seems to be directly related to where the boards are being sold…lots of West Coast complaints about $1,000 plus longboards and on Eastern Long Island (Hamptons) are in that range, but I picked up my full color volan job for $750 and I know of another shop on LI that has several in the $800 range, as well as at least 4 shops in NJ that are also in that range (which is equivalent to $799 Takayamas in my local shop).
