john from cincinnati

has anyone seen trailers for this yet? its a new hbo series about a struggling ex-surf royalty family in cali that encounters a stranger and their luck starts to turn around…i dont know i guess they start getting supernatural surfing powers or something…but if thats not enough to get you to tune in ive got 2 words for you…LUKE PERRY! its not enough for me to subscribe to hbo…maybe ill wait for the dvds…although rebecca de mornay is looking good.

i’ve got HBO…can’t live without Bill Maher

when does it premier?

i’ll issue a report on how good the surf footage is when the show airs.

Here is a link to a story about the show, which premiers Sunday 6/10 after the Sopranos:

Though not credited in the story above, IB local Kyle Knox, does a lot of the actual surfing.

I am in the loop because I work with his very proud mother.

Matt

I watched for about 10 minutes. That was all I could stand. Too cliche, and makes surfers look like a bunch of derelicts.

Like 90% of radio, 90% of TV is pure crap.

i watched it to see what companies shelled out for advertising.

i saw more than a few “…LOST” logos splash across the screen – surprise, surprise.

thats what i figured…no better way of skewing reality than putting it on tv…i hate it when i tell people im a surfer and theyre like…“oooh thats so cool…i love the whole surfer lifestyle”…well ive got news for you…i work for a living…its just that my weekends/pastimes dont involve sitting on my ass eating potato chips and watching tv all day

on a lighter note…has anyone seen surfs up yet? it looks pretty funny

You know what’s better than John from Cincinnatti?

WKRP in Cincinnatti. *

* A friend said that this morning. Can’t claim it as my original thought…but I also couldn’t agree more.

doesn’t the fletcher clan have a hand in this, more or less?

Cool. A TV show about the game’s greatest catcher! Can’t wait to see it. Mike

Some even got SAG cards out of it…the whole thing was their pitch. I’m surprised Julian Schnabel didn’t do the ad.

Actually, you may see a couple of my boards on the show. I have not seen the show, but I made grom boards for a couple of kids in the show (8 and 10 years old, long blonde hair, extras). Their dad is Serge Dedina, an old and dear friend. The boards will have the WildCoast logo on them. Stinger tails. I don’t subscribe to HBO, so if anyone sees them, let me know.

Keala gave up her spot on the CT for this, kinda a mistake. It make “In God’s Hands” look like an academy award winner. I can’t believe the Fletchers are involved is this crap.

with most TV series, in time the character development, scripts and acting find a groove with time.

I haven’t seen it. Probably won’t. But as I think about it, was there ever a decent movie (with a plot) that involved surfing? Ever?

Very true Otis

Unfortunately this one has a very long way to go to even being watchable. HBO does not make many mistakes wrt programing but this one may be one they wish they could take back.

OK if you guys thing this show’s hokey, just wait. Leonardo Di Caprio has the option rights to the Mikey Dora story, and I’m sure this mental midget will want to play Dora in the flick.

More fuel for the fire.

Are you kidding me? You’ve never seen the movie North Shore? Jeeez… -Carl

I’d much rather watch a movie about “back then” than about right now. I live in right now. I know what it is and what it’s not.

But you can fool me… entertain me… about what it was “back then,” because I don’t know any better.

point break had a plot…a 100% pure adrenaline driven one at that…sheesh

i heard a long time ago that ben stiller was coming out with a movie about a washed up big wave surfer trying to get back into the game
