Journey of a 7-6 big guy tri

Hey guys

After reading Oldy’s post on journey of a quad, it has inspired me to start a thread on my own construction of a 7’6" big guy tri I am about to start.

I will post pics and a quick dictation of each step as I get around to it.

Some of you guys (Oldy) may be interested in some of these steps.

Feel free to comment or critisise as you will.

I have already templated the blank ready for cutting the outline and will post pics as soon as I can, maybe tonight as I am at work at the moment.

I will try to update regularly but it is sometimes a week or so before I get to do any work on my boards as most of you know, work, wife, kids, bla bla bla…

I love photo threads of boards and fins being built . As you may have noticed .

You guys have been getting some swell lately eh ?

I checked my mate Ross’s local beach cam [shoaly] today , and it was 8’ and offshore …werri would have been SMOKING , I imagine !

cheers ,

Yer, I was pumpin’

Unfortunatly, I didn’t get to enjoy it.

I had the kids soccer in the morning, and I had promised to spend the arfternoon with the wife. Believe it or not.

Couldn’t get out of it.

Although I did get a chance to have a sneaky look at cowry’s on our day out.

6-8 ft, fairly clean, only about 8 people out.

To narly for me.

I think all the beachie were closing out and fairly rough.

Hopefully it will stick around til next weekend.

mds: i’m looking forward to following your thread mate. no progress on my quad. too busy with filming that last crazy swell. pretty amazing autumn so far.

OK here we go

7’6" x 21 1/2 x 2 7/8

12 1/2 nose

14 3/4 tail

5 3/4 nose rocker

2 3/4 tail rocker (I think)

Here is the outline templated on the blank already. Its a bit hard to see because the outline is so close to the edge of the blank.

And another lying on my stands

Rough cutting the out line

Always seem to do a better job with my tonge poking out

Will hopefully get to clean up outline with the planer by the week-end

Oldy, this might intrest you.

Hey guys

Well I have done some more on my board.

The outline is cleaned up, and I have finished off the bottom contours.

Unfortunately, my computer is playing up and it is in getting looked at right now. (I am writing this post from work.)

I have taken photos and are still on the cameras memory card.

When my computer is up and running, I will post more pics

Hopefully will finish shaping this weekend.

Hey guys

Im sorry for the delay in my pics.

Computers all fixed but the camera in not working properly.

Thats in getting fixed.

I have had bad luck with my gadget since I started this thread.

My board is almost finished.

Its shaped, glassed, fin pods in and sanded. All I have to do my art work and matt finish.

Unfortunatly I dont have pics of the whole process, but I do have pics of the shaping stage to the final shape.

I will post them as soon as I get my camera back. (took it in with the memory card in the camera)

Sorry I dont have the whole process. Will post the glassing stages on my next board

I ride stuff like this all the time.

That has more nose rocker that I usually would have (5.25").

Not sure what a stock 7’6" Desert Island???

Let us know how it goes.

Cheers

-B~

Hey B

That was the nose rocker of the blank at my pencil line.

When I planed into the bottom, I didn’t plane right to the nose until the last couple of runs.

Also has a single concave through the middle.

Haven’t measured it after it was shaped. Curious now!!

Will let you all know how she rides
