dubstar, sorry i dont mean to hi-jack this thead, but how much $$ did that JT nuuhiwa noserider set you back, i gotta get that board

Hey shannonk, Joel gave us the home number and I ordered through his mom, both of them a pleasure to deal with, it would have been worth it even if I paid full retail, I’ve seen them here on the EC for $1,100, heard $1,300 on the WC, but out here you can find JT boards cheaper, I got my Diamond T for $750. Here’s a shot from last week…I really like the board, it’s a 9’6.

PS

Nuuhiwa gets money, ethics of the logo have been hashed out already here, Bing sold out to G&S in the 70’s anyway, blah, blah, blah, done deal…board is great.

forgot to mention, tailblock, pinlines, stringer combos, pigments, etc. all raise the base price…

thx , dubstar, nice pic- i own a JT 9-6 classic square , and a jt 6-8 diamond tail, the 9’6" set me back $920,i had denices’s phone number but i lost track of it, i think a year ago they told me $1100 not sure , but that was w/ the t band, high density tail block etc… that ads to the price. yours is the first ive seen with just a single basswood stringer, and i love the resin tint. what types of waves does it work well witth? think it works ok in sloppy stuff?

Hey, I think the triple stringer was cheaper than the 5 t-band or whatever you call that most have, also you can see mine does not have a tailblock…

It works best in clean surf like the photo (duh!) but after an initial learning period, I now like it in all kinds of surf. We have a “secret” right semi-point and it works really well there, mostly though I have it out in jetty beachbreak like the photo, deck is flat to the rails, which are real thick 50’50 foiled in the nose and tail…had it on a few days that turned out to be way bigger than it looked from the beach and it worked pretty well. Heard the Model K is pretty cool also…

what is the “base price” btw i contacted “Bing” and they want $825 + shipping, they are nice people too, but im leaning towards tudor cuz he pays nuuhiwa a royalty =)

the shop around the corner has a model K, rolled bottom, kinda looks like a early 60’s hotdogers board, no concave, wide point to the rear ,shapped by hank byzak-

sure, nothing against Bing, just trying to fend off the attacks that came last time this was mentioned, $825 seems quite a bit lower…those boards look good too…Takayama and Tyler have “Nuuhiwa” -like boards also, I went with Tudor because I had one already, have surfed with Joel and found him way cool, he took the time to call us back not once but twice after we left a message on his cell, his mom was hassle free, and DN gets royalties…it worked out for me, board was well packed and shipped from Channin, as well.

Joel had gotten an old Keyo in Oz like the ones Nat rode,it was in pretty damn good shape, although it had developed one hell of a twist over the years. Hank pulled measurements from it, stem to stern, but he couldn’t get any of his templates to connect the dots together. Wouldn’t you know it, my Velzy pig temp lined up along all the points. Same lines as the Dora

thanks, Jim…

jim and dubstar ,thanks for the response i was going to ask what the “k” stood for, as for my first impression of the model K, to me it looked like those old pigs, i bet that is one fun mo-fo to ride. i gotta say that it is a pretty original idea, nobody around these parts makes anything like that- everybody shapes like they are a flock of sheep, afraid to come up with something new or re-evolved

It’s weird, around where I live, me and my friend are the only ones who ride Tudors, everyone complains about how expensive they are, yet 90% of the people I see are on $850 generic Surf Techs…and Tylers, Cooperfishes, Takayama’s are all the same price or more.

bitchin btrd in the wide shot…ambrose…a double ender

same here, i live in fla… and nobody has class, they drive a f’n $40,000 dollar suv and tail surf and flail popouts, they always ask" what make of board that is", i told this guy" its a takayama" ,he asked the price, boy i wish i had a picture of his eyes rolling, he couldnt ride to save his life, yet this cheap skate has the nerve to critique my choice of equipment. one time at juno a saw this guy strapping a surfteck to the roof of his covertable lexus, goes to show you money cant buy you class

i should have thrown a rock at that lexus kook

Hey dub, nice pictures.

I weigh 5’10" 130 lbs. and I have a 9’2" Joel Tudor. It rides INCREDIBLE. When you turn, the board has so much momentum that it completes the turn for you when you hit against the whitewater. And the noseriding…well, let’s just say the noseriding is like…buttah.

Joel Tudors are definitely awesome boards. The only complaint that I have about it is that the beautiful yellow resin tint that I had on the board faded for some unknown reason. I never leave my boards in the sun, so I don’t know what happened. Oh well, still a great board.

I wonder if the Keyon Joel picked up was shaped by Geoff Mccoy? That is where he shaped before he went out on his own. Also: I still have beautiful JT Nuuhiwa for sale on my site solosurfer.com. as well as a nice triple stringer twin fin fish by Chris Birtch. Check out surfsearch for some really cool old surfboards. click cateloge.

There has been a tremendous search for good pigments, along with the regulations Clark Foam faces, the chemical guys are in the same boat. Pigments no longer use lead (what it did I don’t know), but we had a yellow tint that was so bright, but after a few days in the sun, almost completely vanished, could be what your board got on it

I don’t think anybody attacked anybody, just stating the facts as history presents itself. Some of us still think it’s a rip…other’s think he’s god. Originality speaks for itself. If he was cool he’d change the Logo.

i’ve seen that guy…pissed on his door handle…you’re welcome.

the same lexus guy is bald ,right. i drove by him and my jaw just dropped, like i’d seen a pink elephant .im not one to poke fun at someone, but this guy looks like he talks to himself out in the lineup wearing a speedo and webbed gloves.
