june 1st here

the first “official” day of winter here . And the surf just died this morning over the two and a half hours I was out.

So glad of the 9’ mal , I was able to get a few today with it.

Yesterday the 5’8 bushfire was motoring into a coupla head-high bombs , as a bonzer3 setup. fun fun fun !

…Quivers ,

a good idea !

ben

…at least it is sunny today , too , as well as offshore , still.

Well done Chip…

How’s the mal going anyway, what fins have you tried with it, are you going to put some plugs in it?

What’s the performance like, paddling, rail reactions etc…

Interested to know…

g’day Grant !

thanks for asking !

the short answer…

one word …

G-L-I-D-E !

Nice stuff .

The hard edge in the tail , and the flat bottom and the single fin = fun plus !

I’m glad you ‘softened’ the rails ahead of my front foot for me , it doesn’t ‘catch’ like my hard railed prawn does ! I can take off sideways [a VERY neccessary skill in our waves , eh ?!]

The fins ?

well, so far …

polycarbonate 7 1/2" depth , 5 1/2 base . (The other one I have used so far is the wood one I made a while ago , and we moulded the epoxy base for . So far , so good !)

I REALLY want to try the “winged keel” in it to… once it gets a bit DEEPER out there !

And of course , ‘ZoSurf’s red single keel …THAT would be interesting on a 9’ mal , I reckon …shades of the clubbie paddleboard setup , eh ? [my mate frank surfs on HIS , with that setup !]

cheers ,

  ben

Iwill definately be leaving it as a single fin .

oh yeah , I need to fix the front right rail …my first surfing ding … [pulling in on a too shallow a wave , with weight forward = uh , oh !]

Hey Ben, you got it wrong: it’s not the beginning of winter, but of SUMMER!

(Think about it: half naked beauties everywhere, hot glassy waves, outstanding sunsets, good wine, did I mention half naked beauties everywhere?)

i was hoping to post pics of the waves today on the “photos” thread but, it was too small to

even document. you’re absolutely right Chip, a quiver is a good idea. i was on my only board,

a 6’2" and the best/longest ride i got was on my belly… still good to get in the water tho…

hopefully there will be some good souths this summer

Hey Balsa, I know what you mean.

The trouble is that along with the half naked beauties you also get full naked uglies.

Whats the go with those naked dudes playing racket ball on the beach?

Picture it folks 50+ year old nude chubby dudes trying to perfect their swing and it’s not the racket thats swinging.

Yeah sure I should be looking elsewhere. I was trying but everytime I spotted a lovely nubile french lady one of these

jokers would jump in the way.

Hosseger, June 1991. (things may have changed since then.)

JD HOGG

Hi JDHOGG, I know what you mean, too…

In French, we would say: “Il y a toujours les inconvénients des avantages…”

Let’s try a free translation: “You always get the disadvantages of advantages…” Would that mean something?

Maybe you were on a nudist beach, too? There are very few of them. Anyway, big, fat tourists are everywhere in summer, nude or not. But usually not surfing. (not YET).

Whereas you may teach said half naked beauties to surf, many are more than willing nowadays.

You may teach them many other things, too, I’m sure…

June 1st twelve or so minutes ago. The official first day of the hurricane season. Some south swell for me too.
