I was contacted by my shift supervisor at 5:30am while doing a Bible study on God’s Faithfulness. I was told my building had burned to the ground and the 1st shift wanted to know what to do, should they leave or stay.
I arrived 30 minutes later to a dismal presentation of what had been only hours earlier a once booming building filled with happy Just Foam employees. After a group prayer I asked the guys what they wanted to do, without hesitation each man asked if we could rebuild. What can a man say to such enthusiasm, to such dedication and determination? I said yes.
32 men from the Oceanside Fired Department had worked all night attempting to control the over 2000 degree fire and were still kind and sympathetic to our loss as I walked the grounds. Rob Dunham, Division Chief was contacted and asked to oversee the completion due to his specific skills in clean up and business relocation. Upon arriving Rob immediately turned his attention to finding a building suitable for Just Foam to move into. He contacted Susan Guzzetta, the Oceanside Fire Department plans examiner who found us 4 buildings within hours approved for our manufacturing process.
Not really knowing yet what is salvageable and what is not we have begun the rebuilding process with every Just Foam client, as well as our competitors offering assistance to Just Foam. There is a big difference between tears of loss and tears of overwhelming appreciation, not expecting the outpouring of generosity extended by the City of Oceanside, the Fire Department, most of our clients (who for the most part have become friends as well) and our employees who are truly family. Support has come from local shapers and as far away as other countries, all willing to wait on their orders and offering whatever we need. It truly is overwhelming.
Today we will begin the plans and permit process with the city. We have located a building and already have our machinery being rebuilt. Having an assurance from the city of Oceanside we will be put on a fast track and not yet knowing exactly how long the city will take to approve the move. We will have our machinery and at least our most popular molds completed within 4-6 weeks. If the permit process allows us to move in during that time we will be pouring foam as well.
Thank you to all who have been so gracious to us here at Just Foam. Meanwhile I will keep you updated on our progress on a weekly basis.
