…on the Performance Core AM-2 Fins
I still remember my first session with these fins. And considering the fact that I surf a few hours every single day of my life and most free surfs can get kinda monotonous - that’s how much of a positive impact that these Performance Core AM-2’s have been imbedded into my mind. I eat, sleep and drink surfing 25/8 so I always want to maximize my surfing experience; whether it’s in two feet groveling slop or overhead frothing peaks. And, unfortunately, it can get tough when your board or fins aren’t up to par in helping with your performance potential. I was so stoked to be able to test out the honeycomb AM-2 and Al Merrick definitely knows the technical ins and outs of fin construction. I really didn’t have any expectations - good or bad - with these things. But even as I paddled out I felt a difference. The Performance Cores are supposed to be like glass fins without the thicker weight but still allowing you alot of flexibility in turns with speedy finesse. So smooth and tight. I tried the fins on both my 6’1" Al Merrick Taylor Knox model and my 5’10" Al Merrick Slater swallow tail. I got so much good drive and release off the top as well as in the pocket with my smaller board. The fins were fun on my bigger stick, too, but I would honestly have to say that these fins are better for your smaller quiver and in elfin conditions because there were times when I felt that the fins on the 6’1" were sticky off the lip.
