K Glass Surfboard Fabric, preferred by many top board builders for it's non twisted yarn, flat weave and direct sizing, improved physical properties and excellent clarity. K Glass is somewhat more challenging to laminate.

i inquired into all the many different kinds of fiberglass some years ago. do a search and you’ll find the thread. i called up the guy at Fiberglass Supply, and he gave me a lot of good info. i think “k-glass” is just from some other manufacturer…made in japan, maybe?..basically, what i learned from my prior inquiry is that in the end, it really doesn’t matter much what type of glass you use. i buy what’s cheapest.

I used K-Glass when I had my factory in Fla., it was touted as being half S-glass. It was a little stiff and at the time costly, $3.60 a yard ?, but people still keep coming up with old boards of mine from that era that are still alive.

The glass was warehoused and shipped from Oceanside from what I remember.

hiya,

If it’s the same stuff I’ve been getting then it’s good!

As far as I know it’s from Korea.

It is stiffer, and what that translates to is that it is more difficult to glass.

Pay a lot of attention on the laps, round the tail especially.

It doesn’t want to bend around the sharp angles on the tail, and seems to keep lifting.

It’s quite frustrating sometimes, you do the tail, then a minute or two later the glass is peeeling back off again, or theres air bubbles under it.

I found longer laps on the tail help it stay stuck down.

But it’s cheap, nice and clear, and i’ve been told that it’s good and strong.

used 6 oz. k-glass once.Imho its great for surfboards, the glass wets out VERY clear, gives less bubbles (tight weave) and should have better tensile strenght since the strands are not twisted. Unfortunately, I can´t find it anymore, all suppliers i tried didn´t have it in stock. Is there some kind of shortage or stop of production? Where did you find yours?

hope this helps
