Kaua`i Rain

Still raining. Pretty soaked, big mess. Watersports are out, brown water for miles offshore. Lihue airport has had almost 30" in the last 3 weeks. Supposed to rain hard for at least 10 more days. Aloha…RH

that’s a bummer Rick. We’ve had weird weather here too. The other day I could look out my window and see snow. In San Diego… The ocean has been 53 degrees…

PS I’ll be on Kauai in about 3 weeks, hope to see you, Kokua, Ambrose, Robin & others… hopefully I won’t have to pack my waders in my board bag!

Howzit Keith, Sounds like you’ll be here when we hold the Pinetrees Longboard Classic contest. Your blanks are safe in my house and looking forward to seeing you again. Thinking of building an Ark if the rain doesn’t stop soon, the groung is saturated and the water is seeping out of the sides of th moutains along the road. Aloha,Kokua

Howzit Rick, Where are you staying these days. I know your side of the island is getting a lot more rain then we are in Haena, actually hasn't been that bad out here thanks to the Wainiha ridge blocking a lot of the rain. Alamihi road tried to flood but it didn't get as high as it has in the past. Aloha,Kokua

Glad to hear you are doing OK over there. I was just thinking about you when the wife email me to ask if I knew any over on that side of the island, and wanted to know how everyone was doing.

Now

Flash Flood Warning in effect… a line of heavy showers oriented south to north will continue moving over the island for the next several hours. This will bring very heavy showers and thunderstorms to most parts of the island…with rainfall rates as high as 4 inches per hour expected in some showers. While the heaviest rain has been falling over the south and eastern portions of the island…these showers will be spreading to all parts of Kauai and will increase water levels in streams… rivers and reservoirs…so be alert for rising water. If driving… be alert for visibility near zero in heavy rain…and ponding of water along roadways.

Ambrose, good to read your words, I was fairly sure you were Ok since you were far enough out of the way. There is nothing wrong with rain, hell we had hail in Santa Cruz last weekend, someone made a snow man and left it on the steps going down to the beach at 38th. It did not melt until way after noon. Wet is good.

Howzit E-Pacman, It’s now 3:30 and still getting some good squalls. I got hit by one that dumped at least 1" in less than 15 minutes. They are concidering reclosing the road, I think we’re getting more rain than they can let out of the reservoir behind the dam. The floor in the shop is a big mud pie and it will take at least 2 to 3 days to dry out. Being in Haena we just hope we don’t get any big mud slides like we got a few years back, those cut us off from Hanalei and it takes a while for them to clear the road. There are some sketchy spots where the only space between the mountain and the cliff is the road and the road has been being undermined for years. Some day the road is going to give way and who knows what they’ll do to fix that, will have to reroute it somehows. Talked to my FCS rep on Oahu this morning and they are getting drenched also. Ah life in the tropics. Aloha,Kokua
