KAUAI SANDS R.I.P.

the kauai sands hotel formerly the kauai link in the hawaiian owned inter-island hotel  chain

built in the late 60's budget  price format made this the choice of

interisland and frugal european tourists.

like the famous Coco Palms has now fallen on hard time management...

not for lack of return guests ,this is situated on the northern end of wailua bay

adjacent to The Alakukui heiau

a great chance for a big hui.

something like 300 rooms...

on three floors.

...one of l

three beachfront resturants on the east side of kauai...

hey Brose

hows that new high falootin resort doing across the way?

i bet you getting lots of rental buisness goin on... ya?

oh put me in for a buck.... what the heck

business is in the krapper.

nobody spends nothin

on nothin,

The safeway hilton is filled with budget tourists.

It went bankrupt. The guy that developed it got caught piggybackin’ his electricity

on the hotel and  the place has forclosed on countless units.

all the speculators went down.

its all about social security.

dang

that place was pretty nice

oh well I guess

Ambrose, it would be awesome if enough people could invest dollars to buy the hotel, but then there’d be all the costs of keeping it running.

I’d give $100 to the cause, but damed we need a lot more willing to drop the same amount.

$1000 would be damned cheap for a time share a week at a time a couple times a year.  Still need 500 + people to do that.

$5000 starts getting a bit high, but then that’s still low for a time share.

Are there 100 people willing to drop $10K for piece of Kauai?

Hey let’s ask Oprah to lend us the money.

the math is daunting

the dream is quite facinating

a seminar hotel

with a giant work space to teach wooden board building

a canoe shed for building HOKULEAS

a Giant glass shop to build O C 1s

surfboards ,sampans. all we need to do is write the

GIANT Grant…

or everybody put in 100$ and start a life long party

move in and serve paying guests…

…ambrose…

I dream therefore I exist.

did somebody say that?

confucious said that

about passing gas.

Seen Peter Moon Band there 79 / 80 . Great memories  in Kauai . Would go there for the motocross and hare and hound race , labor day weekend .

bands played at the  kauai resort

on the south side

of the wailua river mouth

behind lydgate park.

they went butts up too.

The bank auctioned/sold that place for 4 million

the accounts payable was 34million

after they gave up the ghost.

They were struck by the union

for a couple years and their goodwill

went down the pipe

and it never came back.

We just returned from Kauai to Canada, having stayed as always at the Kauai Sands. We left on Monday 16th April, and I can’t find out what happened at the auction! I think there was another property on the mainland also involved, but don’t know if they were sold/offered in one parcel or two, or at what price. If anyone knows the result, could they please post them here, and future updates about what is happening there.

Each time we have visited there it seemed more run down, and each time we leave we wonder if it will still be there next time we visit Kauai’i. This year with so much now closed in the adjacent Coconut Market Place it made us very sad, and sorry for the fortunes and state of the whole comunity, I see posters here who live in Kapaa, and just want to say ‘Aloha’, we wish you well!
