Keahana is GREAT.
I have not built a board using their kits, but considering the nature of the materials and the all-inclusive package their prices are VERY compelling…you get EVERYTHING you need to build a board down the stir sticks, mixing cups and gloves.
I own a Black Knight Quad 2 that I custom ordered from Mike Hynson vis a vis Sean Mattison and had it done by Keahana…I’ve been to their Oceanside factory a couple of times and have had the full tour…the board surfs unreal which of course is largely attributable to the well-refined shape, but the weight and response of the board is SMOOOOOTH and energetic.
These guys represent the future of surfing.
Every single element of the system is made to complement the rest.
They have their own foam, stringer material, biaxial cloth and purpose-built resins for lam/hot coat/gloss…the resins are all pre-measured in such a way that it eliminates any anxiety about mixing ratios.
The post cure oven element is a nice-to-have for the production shop…a garage guy can let his cure naturally or do what I do and crank up a space heater in a confined space overnight to allow for a long period cure at 80/90 degrees (until I can find enough space to make a proper postcure oven)
Last point…the fact that guys like Lost, Stretch, CI and other major manufacturers have rolled out the Keahana option on their own shapes speaks VOLUMES to the quality of the product. These are operations that keep close tabs on customer satisfaction issues (it’s all added cost) and don’t futz around with half-ass, fly-by-night technologies.

Well there has been a bit of swell down here lately but I haven’t had a chance to surf. Just been too busy
There is a supplier in OZ for the Keahana system. Just go to
www.keahana.com and click on the OZ flag in the top right hand corner and from there you can contact the OZ rep
I think they have a place in Byron.

Thats what I wanted to hear. I have had all good reports about the system but only from guys within the system, if you know what I mean.
Its good to hear good reports from the outside
As far as the kits are concerned, it sounds like the perfect set up for guys like me who build from home. It is a bit more expensive that sourcing materials myself so I will have to weigh up the pros and cons They seem to be a little short on the range of blanks though. I only have a choice of 6’4" 6’6" 6’10" retro 7’8" and 9’4" still you can build a wide range of boards from that.
Thanks for the feed back. I have some decisions to make.
Cheers
I hear they have top of the notch customer service if that helps
