keel foil symmetry

I just finished foiling a pair of keels for my new fish. I had planned on double foil. They turned out to be asymmetric–not in the sense that the insides are completely flat, but rather the outsides are more foiled than the insides. I hope that makes sense. I would work on getting them symmetrically foiled on both sides, but the foils on each keel match the other one really well.

Is it worth it to start over? I know that a lot of you are more fond of asymmetric foils (flat inside) than symmetric ones anyway. Will my hybrid symmetry affect the drive that is characteristic of this classic shape? I would like to be of the “try it and see” mentality on this one, but once these jokers are glassed on, I do not want to have to change 'em.

Many Thanks,

Seay

I’ve been making purposely assymetric foiled fins (ranging from subtle to flat on the inside side) for about the last 8 months as an option for customers. Some riders did not notice and others gave positive feedback about having more drive, depends how sensitive your hull is and the rider.

Seay,

Go with the foils you have since they match. The foil you described may well be superior to the more extreme flat sided foil in common use.
