Kevlar Stringer

I am building a 6ft x 18 3/8 x 2 1/4 squash tail board. I am using EPS and, after epoxy/glassing the blank, I intend to use mahogany and beech veneer on the deck, mainly to hide the kevlar/glass deck strengthening patches. I am considering routing 1/4" x 1/4" channels along the length of the board, deck and base, and epoxying Kevlar and glass tows into this channel to act as a stringer, rather than using wood.

I need the board to be strong as I will be using it with a kite.

Has anyone else tried doing this?

Thanks

Gary

Gary,

Why not build it like on the WMD thread?  Bag your veneer(s) with re-inforcements (inside).  Then glass.  There's plenty of info in the WMD thread about what to use under the veneer for heavier use like kiting.  You will not need a stringer unless it is to help hold the rocker while shaping and bagging.

Thanks Dave.

Where do I find the WMD thread?

Many thanks
