My new boss was asking me if I could make a board for his kids. 2 boys 8 and 9 years old and about 50-60 pounds (I’ll have to ask how tall they are). He takes trips to the east coast during the summer including a 3 week vacation at a cottage in Maine, and thinks that they are now old enough that he can take them out into some small waves.
He was thinking; after talking to me about my making boards, that rather than get them a softtop, he could have me make them something that would be good to learn on and yet versatile enough that they could progress on it for a while… until they are older and can get boards of their own.
I have a 7’2" funboard standing sitting in my living room, but am wondering if that would be just too much board. I mean, it would be their equivalent to riding a longboard in length and float, but would it work?
Other than that I have thought of using my 6’6" semi-fish blank, and making it into a funboard type outline with flat bottom and a tri-fin setup.
I’ve never made a board for a kid before so have no clue what would work. Any thoughts out there?
