Does anyone know a standard measurements for kiteboard strap lengths? I am putting 8 inserts into my deck (4 for each strap), but I dont know how wide to set each insert. I am not looking for a stance measurement, but rather how wide apart the inserts for the front foot should be. I am doing a “double” insert with one on each side of the stringer. I added a picture to help out with what I mean. Thanks
You should probably check your foot pads to make sure, some are different. It also depends on if you’re laying down traction pad with holes in it & screwing in the straps, or if you’re putting on specific footpads with straps. Usually, surfboard-style KB’s have the former (so you can also use them strapless) and twin-tips have the latter…
Most DaKine footbeds will fit this diagram, its for one foot only. For the other foot (on a twin-tip) you obviously set the left side inserts above the stringer and the right side ones below…
If you’re doing a surfboard-style, you may not want to offset the straps across the stringer, because when you tack you have to either change your feet or fly the kite behind your back So those are usually just set in-line. You can also set those into longboard center finboxes on the deck, and use screws with plates. That’s kind of a nice way to go for the adjustablity: widen or narrow your stance, go front to back, and set the straps bigger or smaller depending on if you’re wearing booties or not.
Definitely get adjustable straps, no matter what
I use 6 3/8’s as a standard distance between insert to insert. That number has worked with many different strap makes and footbed models. If you put several rows to allow for stance widths you can have a custom width, but the 6 3/8’s should work. That number is for a ducked stance across the center line. If I want to stay inline with the center line I still use the 6 3/8’s.
