Kokua- hotcoat details

Hey Kokua. I was reading in the archives the way you do the hotcoat. For the first time I did the deck without taping off and ended up sitting there for 20 minutes getting rid of the resin droop that was coming off the bottom of the rail. I was sitting there thinking I should have just taped off [smile]! Anyhow, can you go into a bit more detail on how you do your hotcoat, and the “basting technique” you use? Tanks so much bruddah- ziggy.

Use a squeegee along the bottom to clean up the resin. As soon as I finish my brush strokes the resin is starting to kick. I’d say my hot coats kick in about 5 minutes then I wait 15 mins and take the board out in the sun to cure it. Hope this helps, Aloha, Kokua

Hope this helps, Aloha, Kokua Hey, thanks Kokua. Sounds like I kicked it too slowly. I usually just eye out the amount of catalyst needed and it works out. Next time I don’t tape off I’ll kick it faster for sure! No more wasted time standing there with the squeegee. Take it easy man- ziggy

Take it easy man- ziggy …You want to hear a sander bi*ch(the person not the machine),set a hotcoat off slow. The reason being is that it runs off the board more, and leaves little to fill the weave in.Herb
