Krylon clear question

Has anyone tried this type of clear to seal paint jobs on polyboards

http://www.castlewholesalers.com/KRYLON-1303-Acrylic-Crystal-Clear-Spray-Coating-f-GA-11oz.html

It says

permanent, protective gloss finish

non yellowing

moisture resistant

thanks -josh

i’ve used it to seal acrylic paint pen work on a sanded epoxy hotcoat before epoxy gloss.

if memory serves, i did three light layers of the spray before brushing on the gloss.

worked great.

i have as well…no problems…

I’m just not a fan of krylon spray nozzles though…

that stuff is good if you cant find the acrylics spray; the only problem I have found is that it melts/globs off with wax remover

I was actually going to use it to seal the color on the poly blank before i glassed the board and not after, Is this still going to work?

Not under the resin !

You’ll have problems…serious problems.

I used some cheap acrylic poster paint (it was the color I was after right out of the bottle) that actually bled color into the resin. I liked the color so much I used it again but this time I just dusted it with some clear acrylic spray pak , not the same brand but it did the job sealing the color and 2 years later the glass is still on with no signs of delam.

Isn’t Future supposed to be good for this sort of thing? I use it for finish spraying polyester boards. Works really well at that.

I’ve used the clear Krylon a bunch to seal “art work” and to seal sanded “fingerprint” finished boards. It’s not a great looking finish, but is a fair utililitarian finish that will seal some of the pinholes and protect your artwork. It shows scratches from the board washing up on the beach and such. Herb H always has good advice unless you prefer learning the hard way. Mike

Howzit Herb, Never had a problem using Krylon on paint beforw glassing. I use it when doing colors side by side, lay down one color then spray it then tape over that and do next color. The only thing I see when glassing over Krylon is the resin seems to thicken a little which I think is caused by the spray acually melting from the styrene in the resin, but that’s not a real problem. Aloha, your buddy Kokua

Kokua,

Krylon has some petro-chemicals that contain solvents.A light dusting might be okay, but knowing beginners, someone will douse a blank with it and here’s the results = It creates micro air bubbles in and on the surface, which will lead to de-lam later on.

Yes Deanbo,I created the use of future to seal blanks and paint…Good Stuff !

Howzit Herb, I hear you about spraying, that's why I only do a couple of light dust sprays. That must be why I have no problems.Aloha,Kokua

K,

Here I sit after a gnarly accident on the 5 / 55 over pass…no injurys…superficial stuff to my truck.Traveling like 45-50 in the rain and got cut-off…lucky again…to be alive…bummed yes…missing a night’s work and dreading dealing w/ my ins.co. …etc.

Hope all is good with you,and yes,I figured you did it right w/ the Krylon.

Glad nobody got hurt. Californians are the worst winter drivers in the world. We have to be. We seem to think our autos react the same no matter what the driving conditions. Little water on the road and everybody is spinning out etc. Glad your ok, Herb. I know what you mean about the insurance co BS. Damn. Mike

Yup,

Bad or not here I go !(I’m selling this truck, too much bad luck in it for me)

Did you get what you needed on the krylon ?

Sorry for hi-jacking the thread.
