Im a rookie wondering if I can get away with a good wet lam and a good wet hot coat or do I really need the 3rd coat??? Looks pretty solid after the 1st hot coat. No air bubble volcanoes or anything weird. Any thoughts from the OG’s would be greatly helpful … Hologram glitter with Amber tint 6’4" single fin swallow tail vintage throw back …
on how good of a sander you are, and what kind of finish you want… I would think if you threw glitter in there, you’d want a gloss & polish after you sanded… after all, fish lures need to be shiny!
I’d say I’m a 7/10 at sanding. I’m going with a behr low luster sealer so semi gloss it will be. The glitter settle nice in the hot coat so thinking sanding down to 320 grit and rub the sealer in a few times. Should sparkle a little for me in the sun
I shoot for 1 hot coat and just do a sanded finish. However, I almost always end up doing two hot coats because I usually hit the weave on the first one somewhere…
Thanks da5id, I went pretty thick on lam and hot coat,no puddles or runs.I will try just one hot coat this time! I will sand it lightly and hope not to hit the cloth. This is my 5th board and went 2 coats on the others ,seems to get a lot heavier . I was just curious what the norm was.
I’m with 4 oz. pretty much exclusively and find a medium hot coat, sand and a thin cheater coat results in either scotchbrite or polish and nice, which ever you like.
I went with 1 coat and sanded down by hand, I didn’t hit any weave’s or cloth . It worked nice.all, done start to finish in 8 days and saved some resin for the next one!
