ran out of lam resin from usual surf supplies,…couldnt grt to my usual guy…went to local resin factory(not surfboard supplier) and ordered some ‘lam’ coat resin emphasisng that i am making a surfboard. thing is, it has cured blue and not clear…its obviously the wrong lam type…luckily i only used it to touch up the laps but its still annoying as i have a nice white lam with odd crappy looking dark blue bits.
Im tempted to sand the crap out of it and re-lam and patching if neccessary…thats what i think i should do other than paint it
Sorry to hear that. I guess live and learn. Next time don’t start a lam up without at least a gallon of resin. Or else wait for the right resin. Once the stuff is down and in the glass, it’s a done deal.
cheers mate…yep, you are right…piss poor preparation prevents poor performance…not enough proper lam resin…too impatient…bloody surf supplier is almost 1 hour other side of he river and he basically is the only one here in west oz that sells whole sale! guess i’ll just have to spray paint it to cover the ugly bits. other than that, the shape looks great and despite the crap resin, im sure it will surf well too.
If its just the deck lap, spray a rail band on it or fade a spray from the rail into the deck and on the bottom. Its easier than you think. You can even use pressure packs.
Iwouldn’t sand it away, you’ll end up with dirty marks and uneven bits everywhere.
