Hi -

I am not familiar with Loytape but if it is high temp tape and what the local industry guys use, just make sure you use a smooth slightly rounded object to really press the edge down against the foam and try not to over squeegee your laps.

A few things nifty. 1) you sanded the blank too smooth. Stop at about 150 grit, just enough so you don’t have any serious scratches, don’t polish it to 600… Big mistake. 2) make sure the blank is cleaned off real good. Blow it off with compresses air, and or use cheap tape as a tack line/ tack rag. You can also spray some super 77 on a soft cloth and use that as a tack rag, but just a little bit…And 3). last but not least, use a high quality high temp tape automotive tape for your lines.  High temp tape will fight longer against the solvents in the resin…and the high temp it might generate.  The longer the resin sits on the tape with out kicking off the more likely it is to dissolve the tape adhesive…and fail. Also cheap tape will saturate with resin…and fail…And 4) last last but not least…make sure the tape is burnished down on the blank… I like to rub the tape onto the blank until it gets heated up from friction. This will heat up the adhesive a little bit and make it adhere more on cold days.   Do all this and you won’t have any rookie mistakes like you are doing.

Thanks guys.

Some good imput here.

see you in the water.

Did you use a plastic scraper to put the tape down real tight? it works wonders.

See Fiberglass hawaii glassing video on utube. The tape is split with a rzor blade to reduce tension when you make the bend in the nose

thanks you all

Couldn’t see the pics.  I use cheapo 3M 2214(like all the other “Industry Types”.). Press it down with a sewing “Thinble”.  I have also used the “Orange” tape made for Dunn-Edwards by Shurtape.  No probs with either.  The Green Stuff is a “high quality” pitch.  Seems to be the “end all” around here though.  Lowel
