I want to laminate a poster of this really goofy looking guy into one of my fishes that I am about to laminate. The picture has a glossy coating over it, and the poster is also as thick as a normal piece of paper, not rice paper. I was wondering, will I be able to laminate over this type of material? Can I laminate the board, and then hotcoat, and then put him on the board and put a small hotcoat patch over it?
Okay enough shouting. Your’re headed for trouble, here’s why:
One, thick paper won’t wet through.
Two, If it won’t wet through, you won’t have a bond through the depth of the glass coats.
Three, if it wets unevenly (and it will) there will be light and dark patches.
Four, if there’s only a hot coat over it, you will probably sand through or into it, ruining the art.
So what’s a poor boy to do? Easy, but maybe not inexpensive: get it scanned and printed on proper rice paper, and put in under a layer of glass, preferably on the foam with a little catalyzed lam resin on the foam first.
Ask me how I know? Been there, done that, got the video, T-shirt, sticker, and scars to prove it. Each of the above. I’m a slow learner and fast forgetter.
