Lap cutter

Can anyone tell me where to get a lap cutter? And then come over and show me how to use it? Just kidding about the second part.

I’ve made a pretty good rail marking tool. Maybe with a picture I could copy one? thx

lap cutter…razor blade, somewhat steady hand?i think thats it ,if your not doing taped laps,i guess its the same idea just with scissors.

yup…single-edged razor blade…smooth and steady

CUTTING the set lapline is the easy part.

Taping off a nice curve, following the outline and blending with the rail taper, is the skill part.

Thanks to all. Yeah, I’m decent with the razor blade and right hand, but someone refered to a lap cutter tool they had used for cutting tape when air brushing. I thought it sounded like a good idea for a perfect airbrush tape cut. It also pushed the edge of the cut down into the foam a bit to give a “non-bleed” tape line.

Take a 18" 2x4 screw a 10" piece of 1x4 onto it. To make a T The top part of the T runs down the deck as the side runs down the rail. Then just take a hack saw and cut a thin piece about 1.5" into the 1x4 making slits for a razor blade. Make your slits in 1/2" intervals that way you can pick how big of a lap line you want. run your taped down, cut it with this tool works fine. Did a good job on taping my rails with one.
