I haven’t heard of it.

The marketing is kinda fishy.

Both the webpage and the ebay add don’t say what kind of foam it is. All they really say is it great stuff and you can get it in any size or rocker. It’s like, “don’t worry about what it’s made of, you’ll love it.” Sort of miss-targeted marketing. Most of the people who are into building boards are also into the specifics of the materials. They’re not likely to buy just because someone says it better. The simple “it’s better” line works on consumers more than it works on manufacturers.

It all comes out in the end. Survival of the fittest works in surfboard materials.

I would hesitate to do business with him. That’s all I can say

I don’t know why but the guy’s name on the website rings a bell from somewhere…

Richard Landingham

If this is the same guy I am thinking of, he was the guy who made the facegear for most hockey teams as well as the helmets for the speedskiing people. He tried to get people to sign a non-disclosure agreement to see divinycell. Medicina peligrosa…

Speaking of odd things on ebay, anybody hear about this?

sounds like it would be worth a looksie though.

its prolly a multi foam

epp and some other thing.

like they use for helmets.

LAP foam is;

Beaded polypropylene foam. More or less the same type of foam used in car bumpers; high impact; no pressure dings; will bond like stink on s**t to pe or epoxy (I’ve shaped/glassed 2 pe and 2 epoxys); extremely light weight-lighter than eps or xps blank or pu blank but with waaayyy more impact strength;

sounds good???

downsides I have experienced;

the stuff looks like a sponge and acts like a sponge-soaks water like a sponge and, unlike a sponge, does not want to let it go once it’s got it (water, that is)

the stuff is a total beeeyotch to shape-veeeerrrryyyy tough-use 36 grit sandpaper or planer with drum or kkl with a cooling setup to cool the cutting bit while blank is being cut-cut blank is very rough-finished blank must then be sealed with a sealer (spackle,microballoon-resin,etc)-then finish sanded-then glassed

bottom line is; many more steps involved in making a board out of this foam and waaay more time intensive

I’ve personally made 4 boards out of this foam; broke 1 in samoa last year;broke 1 in mentawais last year

as for richard landingham or laningham or whatever he is calling himself these days, well;

caveat emptor

ymmv (your mileage may vary)…

I think he’s one of several who has licensed with Sandia. Email sandia and ask who has the rights to TufFoam.
