This is the last board that was shaped at my “shop”/house…A good buddy of mine wanted to learn how to surf, and on top of that he wanted to make his first board to learn on…Pretty sweet if you ask me. Anyways, we’re moving back to the beach, so these are just some typical “progress” shots of the board being made. It looks red or pinkish in the pics, but is actually a nice, burnt orange color, not sure why the pics make it look like that, flash I suppose. It’s an 8’2", 22" wide, single fin (box). He is a craftsmen, just has never surfed or shaped…I’d say he did a PHENOMENAL job on his first try…
Ah yes. I remember the baby steps. I’m still taking baby steps (toward the nose and sometimes back). This surfing gig is a perpetual learning curve. Your friend is off to a great start.
Your friend, (with your guidence I’m sure) has done a truely amazing job on his first effort. Does he really grasp how unusual it is to have such an outstanding result on a first board? He has impressed me. No easy task.
I gotta agree with Keith, you have come a long way since that that first yellow fish that you made! You learned your lessons well and in the tradition of the elders your passing it along.
