Latest ride..epoxy eps fabric cut lap fixed fin

My latest board.been playing with vacuum bagging to apply fabric.i find it gives me more durability compression wise..i use block cut eps.seems to dampen the epoxy ting ting .more pu like…i use a release film with only a scattering of holes..garbage bag.stoked how this came out.hardest thing is what time to get it out of bag to cut lap.

Me likey. Dims and bottom contour?

Chris

I use my “paper plate test” to gauge epoxy stage. I use it to determine various gel states up to tack free.

After I mix resin and hardener, I pour a “small” spot of resin into a paper plate. After lamination, I poke that spot of resin periodically with a wood match or popsicle stick. The resin goes through several stages of stickiness, forming progressively stiffer peaks that return to flat when poked. Eventually, it only dents until it is fully tack free.

For me, I know which poke responses are the times for me to do various things (e.g. pull tape, cut, flip).

Just my $0.02

The diamensions are 6 10. ×19 3/4× 2 3/4 it a step up for me. But still with a little tail width.at 14 1/2…..slight vee nose to single concave fading out behind fins

Great tips on the test spot. Was just checking on floor…done a lot of polyester (maybe 15 thousand boards )newish to the epoxy thing…one point was wondering if epoxy in semi vacuum would cure at same rate

Never used vacuum.

But as I recall, epoxy doesn’t need oxygen to cure.

Vaccum bag squeeze lam, it reduce thickness of skin and resin amount. With same fiber weight vac lam is lighter but far thinner wich reduce flexural stiffness= less dent and less buckling strengh. Weight gain allow to increase slightly fiber weight, but with glass ( 2x more weight than resin) it don’t offset. Vac lam increase skin density wich is deceptive about mechanical properties, skin is hard (increase density here increase initial hardness, it increase Hertz pressure strengh) at low pressure thumb test but less stiff at higher pressure. If done correctly, with left enough resin in fiber, vac lam allow a better control of lam quality, increasing with fiber by surface weight increase and for lighter weight fiber that want to float in resin.

For thin lam, vacbag mechanical interest should be discuss.

By not having holes in release film am i pushing resin into blank ?..did other fabric work with normal double layer top using normal perforated release film.squeezed way too much resin out super dry… fail…is controling how much squeezes out into the blanket possible?………

I think I saw this board parked at Cempaka??? If so, looked great!

Yup ofterned parked there between surfs…cheers mate

Looks good. Don’t know what to say about dry lams, but I go with anything lemat has to say about composite and vacuum bag.
