Latex Paint and Epoxy. Help please!

So…My first lamination’s laps turned out like crap. So much sanding I went through the original paint job in some sections. So I just went along and finished the lam and hotcoat and rough sanded 80 grit till the board was nice and smooth. But the crap paint job was still underneath. So brilliantly (not really) I decided to paint (latex…plain old house paint) on top of the sanded hotcoat. Then I put another hotcoat (if you even call it that) on top of the latex paint. Went to sand hoping not to sand into the paint. But I sanded into the paint. Nice. But it seems to have the hard feel and texture of hardened epoxy. I test a small section with 80 - 200 grit. It feel like sanded epoxy with a matte finish and water runs right off.

So here’s my question: Is it possible that the top layer of epoxy reacted with the latex paint underneath and bonded into the paint. So really I’m sanding some sort of hardened paint/epoxy combo?

This board keeps getting heavier and heavier. Made so many lil mistakes I keep having to fix. Next glass job will prob take me 1/4 of the time and 1/2 the resin. Live and learn.

Thanks all.
