Layered rice-paper logos?

i’m trying to achieve a tile-mosaic effect with my rice paper logo by hand-painting two sheets two separate colors (was going to use posca pens, any warnings/reccomendations on something else? Can’t afford a printer) and cutting the background color into a square. I then want the other colored sheet to have lettering carved out so that when it’s laid over the background sheet it looks like a tile mosaic a-la toynbee tile

 

My question is this: Can I layer the two sheets directly on top of each other, or will this affect the bonding to the foam? I was thinking if this is a problem, I could just do the background sheet in the lam layer, and then the letter sheet under a patch directly over it.
