Not mine that’s Dunlops personal Zap, he just shaped another one, Stingerless EPS/Resin-X same exact same size 5’11" so he can see if there are any performance differences between the 2 boards. I forget the rest of the Dim’s but I do know they’re 3 1/8" thick. Going over to Jax soon to ride it and if I like it I’ll order one for myself. Dunlop realy likes the board and has been riding it quite a bit. He say’s they have a bit more release and generate speed a little easier than the Nuggets.
Haven’t been in the water much due to our lack of surf, wanted to go this afternoon but had to work, I’ve only had the Nugget out a couple of times becuase the waves just haven’t been steep or hollow enough.

Post of the day. Glad to see the experimentation

Here's a picture of my 09 6'4" X 21" X 2&7/8" zap.
Apparently there's been some changes to the 2010 zap.
Note the tail curve and shallow swallow tail.
Nocean have you tried Aussie Ebay for a star fin?
I see them listed on there all the time.

Cuttie..now that's a knife
Good looking zaps guys, and that is a sweet looking ride gr8day, is that yours ? I really like the idea of mixing them up and trying new stuff so I ordered a Fat Bastard off Solo .(while our $ was up) It should have harder rails and a few other tricks that Greg Pautsch can conjure up, cant wait! You could probably get a wing fin off Revolutionsurf.
That is a great looking zap Cuttlefish and will look heaps better when you take the pad off it..ha..ha
great photos of the zaps, typically are they just vee in the bottom?
as far as star fins go you can buy them from the man himself http://www.cheynehoran.com.au/starfin.html
That tail pad not only provides traction it hides the unsightly heel dents so function over form.

HI GR8day...still haven't seen you in the water yet. Did Jim do that board for you? Nice and thick..just the way Cheyne liked them. Hi Mono...
always been interested in them, have heard very mixed reports on their performance, often hear they excel occasionally but have plenty of limitations...but in saying that, I am yet to ride one and am definitely keen to, may just shape myself one one day....Geoff has his followers but I have only ever seen one surfer rip on them besides Cheyne.....its definitely a part of design history......and wonder why more variations havent been shaped ( not round here anyways...)....
Yea just finished a 6’1" x 20 1/4 x 2.5 and it is the sh!t
I kept the bottom of mine pretty flat with some medium
Panel V out the tail, but that it is because I live on the
Central east coast of Florida. And I didn’t think our surf
Always have enough nuts to push the convex bottom.
But it was a hard decision because I wanted to keep it
True to the design. Also found a star fin and with that
Set-up it just goes like hell. I made the rails real soft
With hard edge about 6 in. off the tail. Super smooth and
Real pivoty (sp?). Make one I they are definitely over looked
As a great design!!!
Here’s 25 pages of Nugget discussion with the last 5 or so starting to get some zap impressions going with pictures and all.

There was an old lazor zap thread on here too that I just re-read recently. Just search with “lazor zap”.
In it Cheyne called them “crewd” however there’s been a lot of time for McCoy to refine them so hopefully he’s referring to the original ones he rode in the 80’s.
Heres mine I shaped a while ago, still have not surfed it , was trying to get a winged keel fin for it…
Vee bottom all the way! If your really keen try a dome or convex bottom but sounds like a real shaping challenge.

I have pretty much returned to the zap last few times out. They are much more snappy than nuggets. Especially the winged keel with a board shaped for it. Those actually had convex in the nose and concave to flat in the tails. Much harder edges up further too. Interesting boards. I think Cheyne even put channels in the nose of some of them.

Simon ripped on them and ended up calling his with three fins ..thrusters. For bigger surfers they work well because you can go shorter and push the tail around. Not so easy for lighter surfers. They have to go really short...like 5'2'' to make up for it. I think the best ones for average surfers had 16'' tails instead of the super wide ones.
Simon on a zap ? think there was a few design differences there but you are obviously a big fan of the design and thats great, have a few I am stoked on myself....
any footage or links of guys ripping on zaps ? if so please post......
Wow, I’d love to have a go on that, it doesn’t look 21 wide at all, beautiful curve.
Yum !
Sheesh Pete is there a board you havn’t got / had / tried ? I envy you.
Funny Burnsie should make an appearance - I was going to suggest you start yourself a blog along the lines of his , call it
" The Board Hussy " or something. : )

Most interviews Simon is quoted as saying the Lazor Zap outline is what became the thruster. He even called McCoy the first father of the thruster. If you look at most modern shorties today they are little different than the original zap. Look at Cuttlefish's picture. Tails on the original was not even that wide. Modern thruster 6'1'' 11.5 x 18 1/4 x 13.5 First zap with pink rails 5'10'' 12 x 19.5 x 15.5 All in all a couple of inches difference if you don't include thickness. In my opinion..thickness is one of the key ingredients in the design also.
