While surfing yesterday, one end of the metal bar in my leash plug came unattached. The rest of the plug seems to be in good shape, but the knot just slides right off the bar. Any ideas on how to fix this without having to route the entire plug and install a new one?
5 minute epoxy?
Grip the bar with a pair of needle nose plyers and guide it back in the hole. Put some epoxy in the hole and on the tip of the bar first. Then add a little more epoxy when you set the bar and wipe any excess.
Should be good to go after the epoxy cures.

Hi
The epoxy glue fix sounds good but a friend of mine had the same thing happen to an 8 yr old board. He took it back to the local board builder who said he had never seen that before. (This guy has been in the business for 25 yrs). He insisted on putting in a new plug for free ! The board maker basically said that once there was a weakness in a part that gets that amount of strain its better putting in another plug.
As a further matter of interest I bought a locally made Na PaPa (Burleigh Heads Australia manufacture) and this new board simply had a tapered hole through the tail for the leash string…no leash plug …simple and effective I guess
Taking it back to the shaper wouldn’t be a bad idea, except its a board that I made. It doesn’t look like the bar bent or the plastic cracked, I just think the bar wasn’t set deep enough into the plastic. I’ll probably go with the epoxy fix until I have time to install a new one. This definitely has me concidering doing a loop next time.
Howzit Monkey, Just replace it with a new plug, not that hard to do and if done right you won’t even notice the repair. I have seen those metal rods rust and break quite a few times. Aloha,Kokua
