Let's list the luminaries who used to post here:

PPK - still posting on the other forum where he is much respected,.

Respect.

a less common commmodity on Sways these days,

then the seemingly over abundance of grumpy retorts.

So these talented elders have gone elsewhere to feel the stoke…

Jim Phillips is (very deservedly) so busy that he doesn’t have time to post. He has heaps of orders and also has to play Mr. Fixit for other shapers when they need help on something special.

Who was the guy that built the giant skateboard? Hicksy?

…Him!

It is the way of the public forum…

Stoneburner put it all in the nutshell.  Soooo  true. You can only give someone the same tip so many times.  It gets to the point where you don’t even respond to a newb because you saw the same question posted by a previous newb a week before.  And say what you all will;  posting pics on this site can be a dangerous propostition.  Not to mention the fact that when you do post pics they disappear into a deep black hole.  Swaylocks has always been a place for unimpotant people to feel important in a very small way.  There’s a lot of guys who have used this forum to let everybody know how bitchin’ they are .  Some of them were named above.  Lowel

I miss Roy. He can be somewhat abrasive, particularly when he knocks heads with those with big egos or thin skins. On the other hand he is always happy to freely dispense advice to those who take the time to ask. He can be charming or not so charming depending on how you approach him. He is a maverick in the truest sense of  the word. A man about as divorced from  the mainstream as it is possible to be. I  disagree with a lot that he says, but I have always tried to approach him with an open mind. He has changed my point of view in a number of areas. Riding one of his boards for the first  time was a revelation for me, and my  surfing has improved as a result.

Roy makes boards using timber he  grows himself. His methods are, as far as I can tell, unique.

I can understand why many of you here don’t want him around. Personally I like being taken outside of my comfort zone.

A lot of the original crew still watches. I used to contribute almost daily back in the early days. I guess that once you have answered the same questions over and over you tend to slow down.I check this place a couple of time a day.Always looking for something new…you never can tell. I learned a new trick just a few weeks ago.

Cute Huck. But the truth is some of this site’s “luminaries” were “nobodys” until Swaylocks.  Some of them have admitted it in printed interveiws and even claimed that they started Swaylocks.   The most revered name on this site has made such statements.  That doesn’t mean they didn’t make a contribution to the site.  But it does mean that they had other motives in frequenting the site.

Mike Sabs.  So freaking ahead of his time and worked in his own world.  Seemed like a nice guy, too.

Agreed, Newschoolblue. And DanB. Keith Melville, Noodle, Tom Sterne, foamdust, Rob Brown, Rob Olliges, Tom D, Dale Solomanson, John Melnor.   And many more we don’t hear from anymore.

I’m still here, so is John Mellor.   There are fewer interesting threads these day, and I’m busier with other stuff, but I still keep an eye on it.

Thanks for mentioning Roy.

Ha ha. Didnt mean to write you guys off.  Keep illuminating. I read everything you guys write. Well, here on Sways anyway.

Guys come and go for whatever reason.  Too busy, work, sick of it,redundant, didn’t bump their board sells up any.  Yah know what? I don’t really care much if the guys left. I care about the guys(gals too) that are still here posting. The ones still here sharing the stoke. The ones that left I sincerely wish health and happiness.  Mike
