Barnfield, Kokua, Airframe, Benjamin Thompson and many more that I cannot currently access in my ancient memory archives.
Doc is a good one
PlusOne AKA George Gall

ahh " the experimental people " , of swaylocks !! …thank goodness there are still a [very] few around , who post their stuff here …
Why don’t you be positive and post the luminaries who STILL post here.
…
Good point.
But I interpret this thread as a tribute to those who made solid contributions, a positive difference, did what they felt they could, then moved on.
Definitely…
Search and read every post you can from “Ramon” “The Cuban Comet”
He passed away in July 2003. The man was pretty much what drew me to Swaylocks in that he had more stoke and humor and friendliness - and humility, something I lack at times and wish I didn’t…
There was Paul Gross - a surfing treasure (chased off site)
Dale S.
Sylvia ? - too few women represented here, some doing some good stuff
It’s all about relevance… When is/was Swaylocks relevant - when has/did it become a minor niche in something greater…
It WAS Swaylock’s** Surfboard Design Forum - emphasis on DESIGN**
I love what I’ve learned here over the years of the history of every aspect of board design and construction and the new techniques that have saved me hours of head scratching. But, given the choice, I’ll stand on my own two feet and deal with it on my own… “What would Velzy do ??”
Sure didn’t need someone to hold his hand…
What would Velzy do ?
Too many around here who masquerade as "experts’’ but aren’t. I know the difference in and out of the water. Have fun ya bunch of neophytes. Go make some boards and then get back to me.
here’s a few I miss reading posts from:
malaroo
harris
surfding
wood ogre
steamroller
doc
nuclearfishin (r.i.p.)
sdrepairman
Wood ogre. Without a doubt, one of the most accomplished wood working artists I’ve ever encountered. In a league of his own.
“But I interpret this thread as a tribute to those who made solid contributions, a positive difference, did what they felt they could, then moved on.”
That is what I meant stoneburner. Moved on. Probably no one reason and I won’t guess. But I remember the thrill of discovering Bert’s vac bagging thread and the intensity of discovery. We couldn’t post fast enough. Loehr’s timberflex. Barnfield. So patient with us. Surrounded by newbs, some polite, others not really. What was in it for him? He hasn’t posted in a very long while.
My sentiment was aimed at pointing out that there have been a lot of smart helpful guys here, and many have chosen not to come back. Was it something we said? Ha.
All the best
Mr. Jim Phillips, rarely seen here anymore. I think he got tired of being disrespected by the uninformed.
I miss seing Mr Barnfield’s post’s.
Barnfield, Phillips and numerous others who took the time out to help feed the stoke.
A kin to telling the Duke he’s a kook.
Me? Nobody…
BUT I was advised to stay away from Sway’s.
No one tells me what to do.
Share the STOKE not your ego…
Doc is a personal friend of mine. A true New England Yankee and a very learned man. I hold him in the highest regard. One of the loftiest compliments I’ve ever gotten was when he said he learned a lot from me.
He’s the kind of guy who comes to visit and brings multiple gifts, not to mention a case of your favorite beer.
This forum needs more more “Docs” and fewer <redacted>
(You know who I mean)
Nels
Magic Man
Doc
mtb (RIP)
And the two Swaylockians I actually have met- Steiny and Doc Strange (still around occasionally)
Paul Gross was before my time but he sure is my fav surfing luminary now. I love the people that make my surfing happen- Paul, Steve, Greg Liddle.
