In my opinion:

The closing of  Clark Foam and the  mad scramble to search for new higher tech alternatives was/is the best thing that ever happened to surfboard design / construction…

It forced one to think of other  refreshing  alternatives… Not the same old shit…

from the other side of the planet.

cheers huie

…Hi Huie, that stuff is not the same as you showed in your picture.

anyway, what these fellas is avoiding is that if you have new materials or build method is for something…I mean, to surf the same way that you surf with normal building board (that by the way, you CAN do anything on a wave, the problem is the guts and the materials fatigue) why you need these fancy build?

They should go ahead an try other designs in the planshape

The planshapes we use with normal building are right with the type of building and hydrodynamics

but who knows if its right with these materials combo?

-in other note, I really prefer to see advantage in the other surf related stuff, that are all crap, like wetsuits, leashes, pads, etc

All bad designed, bad choosen materials, do not last more than couple dozen sessions

Why not people ask for better with those and always try to push with boards?

Because they are corps, no one know where to knock knock the door and if you know, still the guys will not listen you…

 ** cheers huie**

Interesting build. Looks like resin infusion.

Guessing they are using this product for the core: http://nida-core.com/english/nidaprod_nidfoam3d.php

I wonder if they are using molds. The rail almost looks like a seperate piece attached to the core during the build process.

They’ve got a great reputation with their snowboards, pretty unique to see that transition from snow to surf manufacturing. Would love to see more of the build.

Shoot, sorry I didn’t see this thread before posting a new one,

LIB TECH ROCKS!

Ok, they look interesting…for sure

Why do they rock?

Do you have one of their boards?

Interested in how they ride, paddle, etc.(really I am)

How do you repair one?

I wish you’d post pics of your boards more Huie.

Always an inspiration

i want one of those libtech boards . hey huie i got a eps i done with full carbon and it looks really techy. but the carbon is in long strips and it looks like lotsa little pinline. i mite post a picture. surfed it in solid indicators yesterday and it went ok. good not worrying about smashing holes in the rails on the rocks. the carbon was a bitch to cutlap over foam. mite do it over the bottom lam next time

rubber rails of course are a no brainer. been dreaming about that one for ages. surfboards should be softer and have rounded noses. rubber rails and inflatable bottom skin with an inlaid bladder like a surfmat would be cool maybe use that to have adjustable bottom contours. soft layer on the deck with the foot arch and kicker built/molded in so you dont need a stupid grip.

ah yes

holly returns…

gunz blazin…

2004 here he was 10 years ahead

talking basalt glass with greg and bert.

hi bernie! how you doing mate. scoring some nice rides i hope

Mahalo Paul…

still recovering from Knee surgery in december.

hope to get off walking with a cane and back in the water by the end of next month if I can actually stick to my PT schedule.

I think those who don’t remember Holly should search delbert pumpernickle’s(sp?) posts way back whne he was throwing bits and pieces of his advance tech stuff our way before his daughter got sick and he quit posting.

Personally I learned allot from those days from him and Mike(sabs) posts.

can’t wait to see his stuff…

sounds like an ifoam core like what george is using these days and some other new high tech stuff they scrubbed off the aero space industry inthe northwest.

looking at the cost of a high end snowboard these days I’d say they might end up being over priced for the typical “bro-deal” unemployed surfer dude.

I just caught the bit about rubber rails and concave decks. Loving what these guys are doing.

Some kite companies have been using rubber rails, but kiteboards take much more abuse to their rails. Rad concept though, love the fact that they are doing their own thing.Still trying to wrap my head around what’s going on in their core to handle the rubber rails. I wonder if they are using rolls of urethane and shaping it, our using liquid and molding it?

They may still be too far ahead of their time though. Guys are just barely starting to get the concept of concave decks and rubber rails are going to confound the average surfer.

Give them time in design the interesting factor is no tech has been used in current surfboards? that being said design will follow. Most that post here are older surfers and the surfers of today are pushing the bounderies  into new realms that we only dreamed of fly awaay kick out versus controlled air? Remember seeing Davey Smith doing airs at the pit in the 70’s you get the idea his idols were Bertelmann and Buttons but he had already added to that low gravitational surfing style his own twist. They may be making surfboards for a new generation of surfers so for us any old board will do really but its fun to dream, main thing is you get out there and enjoy the  ride would love to try one too but if it it doesnot fit  it does not invalidate it i am sure there will be some young  gun who will make it fly to the revolution!!!
