I have looked and looked and cannot find the link to the post on how to make power pads. Can someone let me know if they know the link to the post?
this is all I could find.

I heard Resinhead makes his own. Jay?
i made mine in different densities of foam with a velcro attachment so that they could be easily interchanged on the velcro disc on my sander. i started with a piece of MDF cut in a circle to the size of my sander. i glued felt to one side so that it could attach to the velcro, and to the other side i glued my foam – camp sleeping pad, car wash sponge, pillow foam, whatever. then, on the bottom, i glued up a thin sheet of foam rubber (available at any crafts store, or even in the craft section of walmart), so that i could change up the sandpaper without tearing up the foam. everything was glued up with 3M #77 adhesive spray. that stuff is great. anyhow, i did this all over a year ago, and still have yet to burn out my first set.
Where do you get the velcro?
pic taken from the other thread on making power pads…
like in the pic, the hook/grip side of the velcro is on the disc that
came with my sander. i couldn’t find any good fuzzy velcro, so i used
felt on the sanding pads instead. i looked for some adhesive velcro,
but couldn’t find sheets large enough to cover the sanding pad…and
what i did find was expensive. i went to the craft store and they just
gave me a scrap piece of felt…it sticks to the velcro on the sander
just fine.
I posted a few pics of one pad, and some of the material to make them. Heres what I do. Go to Harbor freight and buy the plastic backer pad for the 5/8 arbor, they come in all sizes. Now take some form of hard foam to make a base, I use the kiddy playground interlocking pads.(see the red stuff) On top of that i put a softer foam either 2 in or cut it down to 1 in. Thats the basic sanding pad. Put it all together with 5 min epoxy. Stick the sand paper on to the pad with 3M 77. take the paper off the pad when the pad is hot…comes right off. wait till it cools and you’ll rip the pad. Velcro sucks.
Now you can use different densities of foam, or you can sand the edges of the red foam thin, you can double it up, you can just go with a super soft pad…what ever, all sorts of ways. There cheep, they cost about $2 each to make.I’ve got about 10 different pads for different sanding solutions.
edit—Also to sand down the edge of the pad just put it in the sander and hit it with 36 grit glued to a 2x4. This will also help make the pad round and true so you wont loosen any fillings from vibration.

thanks Jay! I needed to know too as Santa brought me a variable speed sander for Christmas! Now I can get those ‘ruffles has ridges’ outta my rails!!!
Thanks for all the help!
I do something similar, but I found sheets of felt with adhesive backing at Michaels so no need to use an adhesive spray.
