"Mt" would be Mark Townsend. He was the person to go to for color work in Hawaii during the 80's. Talented guy. He currently sprays for Rusty and Tim Patterson in California.
80's outlines look very nice, but the only ones i ever see are sub 5'10'', did they only make them small??. I had 2 that would have been awesome for me in smaller waves, except for the fact that they were a little small ( 5'7'' and 5'9'' ).
Mark Townsend, good info thanks! Keep em coming. So I was correct in assuming it is an 80s board? That’s cool. Board is too small and in too rough of shape for me to really use, but I just wanted to find out more about it before I garage sale it or something
the front half pic of the board is the least helpful towards a date. Lower half bottom and profile would be better. Full coverage of the whole board, multi pics, best. It could be a case of …early 80’s, yet another squash tail.
Steve Wilson's been around here on Oahu for a while now. I first saw his work at Tropical Blends back in the late 70s during it's first incarnation, where he was doing clean single fins and twins. After Tropical Blends closed, he worked for Local Motion as one of their staple shapers along with Pat Rawson amongst others. I also remember him being involved with Cheyne Horan when he was developing the winged keel fin in the early 80s. I'm really not too sure what he's doing now, but I have seen him surfing out at Chun's Reef on several occasions. Seems like he never had the same popularity as other Local Motion shapers like Rawson, Andrus, Schaper and Tokoro, but I'd consider him as competent a shaper as any of them.
By the looks of it, the board is most likely mid to late 80s origin. Early thrusters were thick and a bit blobby with much wider tails, for the most part. The icthus (“jesus fish”) is simply a symbol popular among shapers who are christians. I would never buy a board with one of those on it. I don’t condone advertising someone’s religion on a surfboard.
The board is worth about as much as any other old off-the-rack surfboard in average condition. Meaning, not much.
