Locking your surfboard

Does anyone know of a way to lock surfboards to your roof rack so when you go in for a quick sandwich somewhere, someone doesn’t run off with it? Erik

There are metal locking devices that can be inserted into the fin box then a cable through the inserts. Without the fin box, I have know of locking bags but a good knife can take care of that.>>> Does anyone know of a way to lock surfboards to your roof rack so when you > go in for a quick sandwich somewhere, someone doesn’t run off with it?>>> Erik

Does anyone know of a way to lock surfboards to your roof rack so when you > go in for a quick sandwich somewhere, someone doesn’t run off with it?>>> Erik Erik, This may not be the best way, but it has worked so far. First of all it only works on boards with a removable fin setup that requires hardware to keep the fin in place (not O’FISHL). Buy a cable lock (or make one) with enough length to reach from the tail of your board to your roof rack. Grab a spare fin (I know that FCS will sell you a single so you don’t have to buy a set) and drill a hole in it large enough in diameter to put the cable through. When you are done with the session, put the modified fin in, run the cable through the fin, around rack and lock it up. You may want to go to a local shaper and see if you can get hooked up with some extra keys since after a while they get worn. Yeah, it is a little of a hassle, but the peace of mind it gives you is worth it. I know that this won’t totally prevent a board from getting snagged, but unless the thief has an FCS key (and and is bold enough to climb up on your vehicle to unscrew the fin) or is willing to risk doing board damage while he is punching out the fin, you should be set. One last thing, as far as the cable lock goes, you should either slip some padding around it to keep it from dinging your board (pipe insulation works great) or only put the lock on when you are at the resturant. Hope this helps someone, Yank
