Loehr sold Resin Research???

just heard a rumor that GL sold out to a large boating interest…anyone got any info? wonder if all the research and development he focused on surfboard building will go by the wayside and be turned toward the larger and more lucrative boat building industry…

i hope not.

Why should it? Even if it is true…the formulas are in place and are profitable to a segment of the market that is already buying and using it through established distribution networks.

Most professional businesses don’t turn away business that has a proven track record of use and reuse.

my concern lies with the corporate bottom line mentality…greg approached it from a surfboard builder’s perspective, particularly the safety angle…the hardeners he developed were safer to the end user but way more expensive…i can see corners being cut there to pad the bottom line.

i think he deserves whatever he can get for the hard work he put in over the last twenty years, in spite of taking a lot of crap from a lot of the industry…i hope he makes enough to comfortably retire and do whatever he desires.

Jim…I see your point. As it is in corporate America it is almost always about squeezing another 1/4 cent here or their (frequently at our expense) to plump up the bottom line.

The bottom line inicidentally is that ethics takes a back seat to bucks. I hope GL can go buy his own island if he so desires.

Hmmmmmm … retirement … doesn’t sound bad. But no, there has been no sale. I have too many other things I want to do in this biz yet to be comfortable about selling right now. We’ve just finished the new CE resin which is getting rave reviews from those who have tried it, distribution is continuing forward and we have some other very exciting stuff in the works for fall we’re putting together now.

I’ll probably sell one day. I am 55 and I don’t want to do what Clark did and end up working my whole life. I’d like to surf and have some time to do that before I can’t anymore. But not today when there are still challenges within what I’m doing. I certainly think I can still contribute to this thing and have a unique position to accomplish many things I don’t think anyone else may be in postion to do for this industry. We all face challenges over the coming years especially environmentally. I have worked for many years in this corner and it’s something I believe we can continue to do better. My job is to put the right stuff in the right hands and to use this position I’ve managed to create to do that.

But sitting on my varanda overlooking Pipe with my feet up wouldn’t be bad …

GREG HAVE YOU BEEN ABLE TO COME UP WITH A RESIN WITH A HIGHER HEAT DISTORTION 20+ DEGREE OR SO AND MORE FLEX THAN YOUR 2020 ???

HDT is raised in epoxy by elevating the cure temps. Elevating the temperature 20 degrees (to just 97F) will raise the HDT by 20 degrees. 2040 has more flex than 2020.

I KNOW THAT BUT FOR SUM DUMB REASON NO ONE WANTS TO POST CURE I HAVE BEEN POST CURE AT 120 FOR 6HR AND HAVE STILL HAD CUSTOMER GET THE BOARD HOT ENOUGH TO DELAM I AM TRYING TO GO ANOTHER 20 FROM THAT CAN YOU E-MAIL ME A DATA SHEET ON THE 2040 I WOULD TRY TO GET IT FROM HANK BUT I AM STILL WAITING FOR CLOTH I ORDER A MONTH AGO …

RL…not to butt in…don’t forget the info on the fin inserts you were going to PM me when you get a chance…hasta la pasta

JUST FINISHING UP THE CARBON/KEVLAR BOARD THAT I AM PUTTING THE FIN PLUGS IN SOON AS THE BOARD IS FINISHED I WILL TAKE THE FINISH PICTURES SO YOU CAN GET THE WHOLE INSTALLATION PROCESS AND PICTURES OF THE JIGS AND HOW TO MAKE THEM ,THIS WILL SAVE YOU A LOT OF MONEY ON FIN PLUGS AND MAKE A MUCH STRONGER FIN SYSTEM THAT YOU CAN USES IN YOUR BOARDS

Awesome…thank you.

Data for 2040 is online, www.resinresearch.net What foam are you using? Delam from EPS is vitually never.
