Logo/ glassing limitations

I was wondering if anyone could help me out. I currently shape, but do not glass boards myself. I am currently shaping a board for a design company bartered for a logo graphics package. They say they just want to hang the finished board on the wall, (say they won’t ride it- whatever). Anyway, they want to put something big on it, possibly outputted from a large format printer. Obviously this is a problem. I do understand that serious structural integrity can be compromised wherever glass blocked from foam. So given my predicament, any suggestions? And no, they’re not interested in airbrushing or posca pen treatment. Seriously stuck. Any help would appreciated.

get them to print on fine grade soft cottom with resin fast inks. wet out as per material inserts, you should be fine. http://www.feraldave.com

Whoah, TNT! That board graphic treament is the shizzy. One last question, where can I obtain grade soft cotton and resin fast inks? Secondly, after output, do I immediately apply logo? I only ask because you use the term resing fast ink. Oh hell, can you elaborate on process?

you need to check the achives about glassing in material inserts. get your printer to source the cotton and inks. by resin fast i mean the ink is not soluble with resin, http://www.tbdgroup.net/

SINCE THE BOARD WILL BE A WALL HANGER GLASS WITH ONE LAYER OF CLOTH AND AFTER IT KICKS WET OUT THE LAMINATE ( SHOOT IT OFF COOL ) THEN IMMEDIATLY GLASS OVER THE SIDE WITH ANOTHER LAYER OF CLOTH . BIG LAMS CAN GET A LITTLE BUMPY SO FIRST LAYER 4 OUNCE ,SECOND LAYER 6

wow… board and grafix are epic. Do you have that shape in digital form? I am seeking lines like that at the moment. Have n clue what to shape… I have an idea about my graphics though…want to do my girlfriend vektor-style. If you print on really thin paper that wets out completly is there going to be a problem? I was going to ask the same question anyways… Printers do laminate prints too…so they should know which kind of paper works? cheers Marcus

Sully I have been doing large format graphics for some time now. check out dreamflag site. I print on high quality “rice” paper no fade, no bleed, no delams. Photo quality graphics. Check it out. Ray http://www.dreamflagproductions.com

Thanks Ray. Can you point me to supplier of ‘high quality rice paper’? Thanks.

here is another example of the cloth insert type art we have done http://www.feraldave.com

Dave!..did you use an Epson printer to do the feather? (which one, if so?). Was that a full board width print? (i.e. full board width size of [rice?] paper through your printer?). What a beaut! Epson has a new wide width printer, but the inks are not the durabrite. Don’t know if they are as lightfast. What exact medium of paper did you use, and where might I get some? Thanks for the post; aloha, T.

the printer is a large format printer used by sign companys to make big stickers for the whole sides of busses etc. they cost around $200,000aud. the material we use for the board prints is cotton based cloth. i supply the art to the company then they return me the print ready to glass. http://www.feraldave.com
